I'm playing through the Dead Space trilogy again. Shame the series got taken out behind the dumpsters at the local fast food joint.
Anyway I wanted to bring up some points about the gear available in the series that I've noticed:
1) in DS1 I originally went through the game with the Plasma Cutter. I'm doing the same thing again and it's still a lot of fun.
2) the content that was available to The limited edition version of DS2, which is a cool looking armor and a shotgun like weapon, can literally carry you through the entire game as long as you have a plasma cutter as well.
3) the same thing with DS3 when it comes to content behind some limited edition packaging. In this case it came with two armors and two weapons. I went through the entire game with just those two weapons that were included.
Overall I just find it strange with points 2 and 3 that they would include something like that without really giving you an incentive to use other weapons the games have to offer.
Again some observations I noticed and wanted to share.

I never hesitate to say the Dead Space trilogy is one of my all time favorites from last gen. They are insanely fun and I vastly prefer them to the generic cover shooters (that aren't Vanquish or Binary Domain), or other shooters that just have boring human enemy types. Dead Space was basically the true successor to RE4.

RE4 still has far better combat than DS though.

Nah, they are pretty much the same in my opinion.
RE4: shoot 'em in the head, shoot 'em in the tentacle.
DS: shoot 'em in the knee, shoot 'em in the arm, shoot 'em in the stabby appendage.

While one definitely influenced the other I still think Dead Space would have been the natural progression the RE series should have taken.
Controls, lighting, atmosphere, sound design, that whole dementia and hallucination thing in the second game: those were what made the games, at least the first two, very enjoyable amd rank highly in my eyes. The third game is DS's version of Resident Evil 5. While good, it doesn't necessarily fit with the two games before it (funny enough Resi 5 and DS3 both focused on co-op).
But instead we got Resident Evil 5 and 6.

Now I'm not knocking those two Resident Evil games, I've played them both, it's just that they could have done so much more.

I don't care what anyone says, I freaking love RE5. I got the platinum solo on the PS4 release last year. Had a blast. The gameplay is just incredible.

Anyways, you can walk while aiming in Dead Space. That was the natural next step after RE4.

I wish I could punch problems in the face like Chris Redfield punches boulders.

I feel i have more options on RE4.
DS: Walk away and shoot them, theyre too close, stasis, walk away and shoot them, walk away and shoot them... walk away and keep shooting them.
RE4: Shoot them, make them drop on the floor, stab them on the floor, more are comming use shotgun or roundhouse kick to clear the screen, theres too many tentacles use flash grenade. There's more room to improvise on the fly during combat to not make it boring.
RE5 is pretty good even with the AI but i prefer playin it in coop if i can.

Drakengard 3 prices are looking kind of high. Wonder if I should grab it soon... didn't get much buzz and seems very hit or miss. I don't have any interest in the first two, but this one playing a bit more like Nier (I think) looked cool.
