The Japanese version Power Blazer did in fact contain a Mega Man-esque character, but it was changed by Taito's American branch when it came here.

Cool story bro

I hope to God it's one of the 8 or 16-bit ones. Otherwise...... yikes.

I was thinking about something like this today and wonder, do we have a thread anywhere that's dedicated to the insanity that is regional differences across the 8/16bith eras? Recently alienjesus beat and noted that the Japanese version of Dynamite Heddy is the one to play. And now we all know a lot of people favor Streets of Rage 3's Japanese release (Bare Knuckle) over the US one. Now that I'm on a roll with some retro stuff lately it makes me wonder which versions are the best ones or most fair to play.

On another note, I'm trying to remember a weird NES game and hope you guys have some guesses. I want to say... it was Funky Kong's Snowboarding. I seriously don't have a clue and it was probably a one time rental, but I recall it being like a Donkey Kong snowboarding or skateboarding game or something. Even though I don't think Funky Kong was a thing before DKC dropped. That's all I remember. Some wacky snowboarding game on the NES that I think had gorilla/monkey characters. lol

Nope, sure can't. I remember this being covered in a Nintendo Power years ago, so it's why it popped in my head. I don't know if I've ever actually played it.
