First off:

Luke Congratulations on another great year with your awesome pooch. She is cute.

Stark: I'm not sure what the transplant your getting is for, but that's great and good luck. I know a transplant is always a big deal. I've had family members that have needed them for various things and they aren't always easy to get. So congratulations to you too.

Second thing:

This is apparently not my week for good vibes. So, I took my car to a garage I've been going to for the past 10 years to get 4 tires mounted and balanced. They are usually $15.99 which includes disposal of the old tires. After sitting in the waiting room for an hour, the mechanic comes out and says that his boss said it will be at least $30/tire because I have 40 series low profile tires on my car. I was floored. I told the guy I've had this car for three years and they have m/b'd 4 sets of tires on this particular car and never charged me that much. He said it's because the tires are so hard to deal with. I went on to tell him that my wife's old Nissan Armada had 22" rims with low profile tires and they have never charged me that much. He basically told me though shit. I told the guy that I have been going there for 10 years for every oil change, alignment, suspension issue, tire change and exhaust issue I've had for both mine and my wife's cars. And that if he wanted to price gouge me for an extra $60 I'll find another garage (I had actually gotten a cheaper quote from a garage down the road, but decided to go to these guys for consistency sake). Again, he basically told me he didn't care. So, I'm going to move my business down the road to the other garage.

West Virginia DHHR says symptoms include: severe burning in throat, severe eye irritation, non-stop vomiting, trouble breathing or severe skin irritation such as skin blistering.
My Aunt took a shower in the stuff before the water company sent out notice :X. She is right by the Elk river and says the smell was so bad you could hardly stand being by it.

To make matters worse people swamped the stores last night and bought up the majority of the drinking water in the areas effected :P.

Yeah a coal company dumped a bunch of frothing agent into the river. Idiots.

It's a bone marrow transplant for my girl. You can read about it here: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 15&t=44515

Thanks pal. This is probably Ripley's last hurrah, so we're going to make it extra special. Life without her is going to be weird.

Thirty bucks a tire seems pretty darned cheap. Almost too good to be true in my tire buying experience. But it certainly sucks that you have to cut ties with a formerly dependable mechanic.

In this area you usually look between 50-60 for a complete mount and balance for 4 tires.

Woo, back on the road to recovery for next month then. :)

That's ridiculously cheap. With my parent's old truck that used a pretty standard boring tire they could get away with $100 for a set of cheapo new tires mounted out the door, but with all the funky sizes and lower profile stuff these days, $40-50 for a cheap tire before mounting and all the environmental fees is about as low as you can go here. I think I paid $350-375 for my last set of tires and I went for middle of the road ones.

I think he is just talking about the labor expense for the mount and balancing not the tires as well.
