The Office is the best. I watched it all on TV, then re-watched the whole series on Netflix, and now... doing that again. I never get sick of it, and in fact find shit in it that I find funny that I missed the first (and second) time.

Lol. My brothers are actually rewatching it now. Was thinking of giving it a go. I have never watched it.

Recently watched the first episode of the new Kamen Rider series, Kamen Rider Drive.
It has a law enforcement theme with a car motif, with the main character driving a car in lieu of a motorcycle like previous Riders. So far, so good.
I don't think I'll be rewatching KR Gaim and since I need the hard drive space I'll just delete the episodes off my hard drive.
I'm keeping any specials (the crossover with ToQger) and any features (Kamen Rider Taisen, the crossover with KR Wizard), as well as the music videos.

My wife watches the show endlessly too. I think it is poorly written drivel full of obvious jokes and easy stereotypes. On the other hand, that also describes like 95% of sitcoms TV, so I suppose it does that "comfort TV" thing better than most?noiseredux wrote:apparently I'm in the vast majority, but I watch Big Bang Theory re-runs over and over. Whatevs. I find it quite funny.
I can count the number of sitcoms I've watched with regularity since the 90s on one hand. I can only remember, in fact, actively watching three ...
The Office
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Arrested Development
...and I started watching Mike Judge's Silicon Valley last year, which is pretty good.
Otherwise, TV sucks at comedy. So does much of film for the past decade or so, too.

It's always sunny in Philadelphia is quite great.

ah ha! yes, though I'm 2 seasons behind or so I do quite like Sunny. Yeah, that gives me five since the 90sLuke wrote:It's always sunny in Philadelphia is quite great.

ironically I think it's obvious and stereotypical that you wouldn't like it.dsheinem wrote:I think it is poorly written drivel full of obvious jokes and easy stereotypes.

To be fair, I think a lot of sitcoms "dumb" you into them. Friends is pretty terrible, but you get accustomed to "Oh that Joey! I bet he's going to ask her how's she doin'?".
Still not a fan of Seinfeld (the show). People lose their shit over Kramer opening a door. Sure "I don't get it", but when I ask people to explain why Kramer opening a door is so funny the answer is usually "Because it is Kramer!". Yeah, and? Same with "Hello Newman". To me Seinfeld is no different from a Jeff Foxworthy standup show. The more he says "You might be a redneck if?" the more people think it is funny.
But I find Tyler Perry shows to be hilarious (for all the wrong reasons) so my taste is subject.

Re: So what have you guys been watching lately?
I like Seinfeld, but I never found Kramer entering a door to be funny. It's that typical hype around a character that has nothing to do with whether they're funny or not that develops on many sitcoms. The characters get reduced down to a quirk or catchphrase, and then the writers constantly fall back on it. I remember Mad TV had a character called Stuart who I despised. He'd show up on screen and people would applaud for 2 minutes straight. Then he'd say "I don't wanna say!" and the audience would laugh for 2 minutes straight whie the actors struggled to maintain a rediculously long comedic beat.

I loved Seinfeld as well and thought kramer entering a door was hilarious. Just the way he bust through and his facial expressions crack me up.
