I watched a full run of Earthworm Jim 2 yesterday while I had dinner. I love these two games. But then I loaded up the first game to watch on the side as well and I think I am finally going to admit, the first game is quite a bit better in just about every department. It still has its gimmicks, but for the most part is a run and gun platformer. The level details seem way higher and the music is definitely a lot better. Buttville feels like an actual final dungeon and the ending is great, whereas 2's final level and end feel a bit more like a joke in itself. 2 is incredibly experimental and disjointed with so many strange level gimmicks, it's a really strange creation.

I love 2 and still do, but no denying I always lose steam about midway into it around the Cow UFO level or the isometric bomb one that just flat out sucks. That, or I always get stuck on the papers level. I think I've only beaten this game once via save states probably a decade ago, but never again since then. Watching that playthrough on youtube, I always forget about the weird eggs and bacon level. This whole series is probably the product of drugs, but wow 2 takes it to another level.

No I haven't played 3D and never will.

Probably going to hit up that first game again soon, the Genesis version of course.

I tend to agree, the second game feels more like a mini-game collection at times.

Yup. I actually love Lorenzo's Soil and The Villi People, but after that it's kind of hit or miss.

I was almost interested, until I found out this version of the 2DS is not tablet style like the original. Oh well.

Not cheap enough to get me to bite. I'd just go ahead and shell out for the 3D model at that price.
