Lived in West Virginia along time I would consider it to kind of be a mixture of North and South really depends on the areas you visit. It's kind of an in between state and they get shit from all directions because of it :P.

Rant about my time in Ohio:

Disclaimer: General rant about my general area not the state as a whole.

Can't stand the rep the state. Moved to Ohio about 5 years ago and all they do in this area is bad mouth West Virginia for being full of a bunch of trashy uneducated hillbillys :P. Thing is I've seen more couches and toilets chucked on the side of the road here then I ever saw in West Virginia :P. The people(in this area at least) are weird as well many of them don't like outsiders and there is a lot of racism.

Highschool in Ohio was so bad I transferred midway through my junior year. The school I started in permitted drug use or at least preferred to ignore it, had a "camo" clan(read KKK jr.), and most classes set aside 10 minutes before each class so that students could "help" one another with their homework. Was sexually harassed day one by the principle's son who felt he needed to assert his dominance and I tossed him over a desk so not only the students but the staff as well had it in for me until I finally got out of that hell hole :P. That was the "best" school in the area.

My time living in Westervile Ohio was nothing short of awesome. Except for Skyline Chili, as that stuff gives me diarrhea by only thinking about it. Seriously, stop putting ground beef seasoned with cinnamon, placing it on spaghetti, and calling it chili.

Everything about the town was wayyyy ahead of its time, and when moving from Ohio to NC I felt that I had moved to a state that was a decade behind.

The schools were great, racism didn't exist or at least wasn't expressed in my area, and I have often thought about moving back to the Columbus area.

You were on the east side? I lived just a year in the western side, and that wasn't my experience at all, but I was in a small town. Where I was was actually very similar to Indiana, minus the Amish. Then again, the biggest city near us was Lima, just beating out Fort Wayne by a few miles.

I never claimed they are all alike; I am claiming they are all southern. West Virginia and Florida are very different in terms of Geography, terrain, weather, and demographics. They are similar in terms of culture, history, stories, language, manners, gestures, music, and other factors. They are both valid parts of the South. Claiming that one state is not the "real" south while another state is "more southern" is simple exclusion.

Certainly each state is unique. I'm not arguing that every state in the South is exactly alike; I'm saying that they're all the real South.

To draw an analogy in gaming:
I'm a hardcore gamer unlike you filthy casuals.
I'm a real southerner unlike you (insert state here).

I think that may be the truest statement I've read today. I'm sorry you had such a hard time in Ohio. Where were you? Ironton?

The city I was mainly talking about is Proctorville. After transferring schools over to Chesapeake things got much better though. People were a lot more down to earth and I was able to enjoy for the most part the last bit of my high school experience.
Really everywhere else I have been in Ohio has been fine it just seems like there is an odd little clique within this community that thinks they are better then everyone else :P.

I never visited Proctorville, but I have visited Ironton and Gallipolis which aren't too far from Proctorville. It stinks they treated you so poorly. I suppose that some towns have those "camo clans," but not the whole state. You might even say the same thing about WV. Huntington seems like a cool town from the four or five times I've visited; however, other towns in WV are populated with racists and other unsavory characters. Even within these towns there is both good and bad.

That's not at all alike. I think you're confusing the South with living in the southern part of the United States, but San Diego and Biloxi are worlds apart. To keep up your analogy, you'd group together South Africans and Australians because they're both along the same parallel? Saying we're both gamers is like saying both West Virginians and Mississippians are both Americans. It doesn't say anything about Southern identity.

What I'm saying is that southern Florida in terms of "culture, history, stories, language, manners, gestures, music, and other factors," all things that usually define cultural or even ethnic groups, is very different than Mississippi, Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas, most of Louisiana, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, and most of North Carolina and Virginia.

If you think your experience leads you to say they aren't that different (after all, we're working on scales of humanity), then I'm very interested in hearing why.

Smile: PA passed a law that if your car is not free of snow or ice while driving you will be fined anywhere from $200-$1000.

This isn't getting pulled over for a dusting of active snow on your car, rather a law that will stop idiots from driving with an iced windshield and ten pounds of snow on the hood/body of the car.

What's so bad about driving around with snow still on your car? I'd be curious about the details of the law, as I'm sure I've driven around with just enough room to see where I am going and plenty of snow on the roof, trunk, hood, etc.

The roads were pretty shitty here this morning, though they look a lot better now that the sun has had time to work on them. It was 2 degrees when I woke up this morning. I knew it was suppose to go down to 0 overnight, but I figured by 7 or 8am it would at least be up to 10. Nope, 2. I was dreading going outside. But once I finally did, it really wasn't bad at all. There was no wind, and I was warm enough with the layers of cloths I had on.

My car has a funny problem. Long story short, I had to replace my motor mounts last year and when the cheap route. My new mounts cause massive vibrations when the car is at idle, and it's pretty annoying. Today, I guess because it was so cold, when I (remotely) started my car, the arm went off. So I press the lock button to shut the alarm off but still have it set. But my car was grumbling so bad that it kept tripping the warning beeps, so I had to just deactivate the alarm.

Do I like the snow as an adult? I really depends on what type of snow. Anything up to like 6 or 7 inches can kinda suck. Anything over that... SNOW DAY!

Popo has the right idea, you just need a snow thrower. I've been wanting to get one the past few years now, but haven't had the money. I am getting a little tired of the shoveling part of snow.

But luckily for me, I have a neighbor who is a landscaper. He has one of those John Deere small bulldozer type things. He's nice enough to clear the curb in front of all the neighbors' houses. So really all I have to do is clear off the cars and shovel the driveway and walkway out. If it wasn't for him, I'd be dead without a snow thrower.
