I like the Bioshock Dear Diary, thanks Ack.

Same here! As opposed to a lot of the commenters thus far, Bioshock is actually one of my favorite modern FPS. OTOH I'm one of those weirdos that plays FPS strictly for single player campaigns, and upon completing them set the games aside without so much as ever giving online play a passing thought.

I don't mean to say it's a bad game, it's just that I don't find most of the guns capable enough to be worth using outside of specific situations. My attitudes towards certain weapons has changed after upgrades, though I still don't use some of them at all. The grenade launcher I wouldn't use until I made myself immune to its damage. Now its my favorite weapon against the Big Daddys since I can drop a frag at my feet if need be. The shotgun's electro shot, all of the grenade launcher rounds(but especially the rocket), and all of the chemical sprayer ammo types are hugely useful in fighting them, particularly if you can get into curving corridors where you can slow them and briefly escape for a respite to reload or swap weapons/ammo depending on your needs. Fort Frolic was a particularly good area to fight them since it has that large circular hallway on the second floor.

More Bioshock.

Well, I've reached the big reveal in the plot. I'm now in Olympus Heights, running through cruddy apartments and teaching myself how to fight the upgraded Rosies. I'm still using my wrench for the regular guys, and they've responded by pretending to be dead bodies...so now I just walk up and hit dead bodies. Seems easy enough. Beyond that, my tactics haven't changed too much. Whatever stuns the Rosies are best, though now I have to pay much more attention to cover. I find Rosies tougher to deal with than the other type since they have range and proximity grenades, but the frags still take off chunks of health. I need to experiment with the alternate types of crossbow bolts. I've unlocked nearly all of the slots for passive plasmids too. Oh, but that max health drain...does that ever get reversed? Is it an automatic thing over time or at certain points?

Anyway, as for the plot...mixed feelings on the big reveal. I did not want to be a special snowflake, I really did just want to be some dude who survived an airplane crash. Why can't I be an average Joe for once? But what I really like are the implications of the player as a sort of Pavlov's dog. I always enjoy a horror game that chooses to attack the player, and while Bioshock largely hasn't been scary, it makes for an unsettling realization that I've been led around by my nose...though it's also a linear FPS, which means I can pretty much only be led around by my nose.

Yeah, I personally think the reveal would have been more effective if the game ended at that point; it would have been a full examination of how the FPS actually works when taken outside the context of "cause it's a video game". By continuing it subverts that a bit.

Exactly. It takes what could have been an incredibly poignant realization and then ruins it by giving the illusion that I have some kind of "choice" to not following the programming...by following the programming. Now I'm "free" of control but still doing exactly what it is the game tells me to do, which is muddling the impact of the message. In the context of Jack Ryan's beliefs, I'm still a "slave" to the game despite the game telling me I'm now not one and have broken free.

I got my copy of Bioshock installed and I'll be playing that later this summer along with some other FPS, and of course a variant of COD next month for TR.

I'm still going through CoJ "2", since it is the second game in the series. I love the atmosphere and the story.

So 4 is awesome then?

Good, good.

I won't be able to play it until Tuesday since I preordered from Amazon (for some reason I thought they would ship early for release date delivery), and I'm pretty sure the extra few days wait is going to kill me because drama.

I'm on the fence about grabbing Do4m now, or waiting for a sale.
