If Dave can include Typing of the Dead for his reasons of being a niche cult classic, Illbleed also fits these criteria in terms of survival horror cult classic. If his retort has sufficient persuasiveness, I will switch it to Samba de Amigo.

Typing of the Dead is the best known, most collected, and highest regarded game in the typing-game genre.Blu wrote:If Dave can include Typing of the Dead for his reasons of being a niche cult classic, Illbleed also fits these criteria in terms of survival horror cult classic. Illbleed is a little known, poorly reviewed, and little sought-after game in a reasonably popular genre with many, many superior games. Samba would be a much better pick.

Re: Summer Games Challenge 2014
I thought I might start around the middle of the month. It's still a bit early, but with a full time job now I'll happily take a bit of extra time for the challenge.
Going to see if I can beat a couple of games by the 15th. After that, I'll get going.
Going to try and beat Gravity Rush, Solar Striker and Cybernator by then...

Fair enough! Do you feel that Samba de Amigo is culturally appropriative at all and as thus makes it less qualified for a classic status?

WRONG!
@Blu, unless you have maracas, I'd go w/ the CULT CLASSIC Dreamcast exclusive Illbleed.
(EDIT: Ok, so probably poorly reviewed, but it is sought after cuz it's a DC exclusive and it's awesome...)
Re: Summer Games Challenge 2014
I got two pairs of Maracas, you can come join me. It'd be a long trip but I have Sapporo, Kirin Ichiban and anything else you'd require.
Or maybe I'll play both.

Samba De Amigo is very easy and very fun, and I smiled like an idiot the first time I played the Samba De Amigo track in Sonic & Sega All Star Racing because I love the music so much. I hope you like it too!Blu wrote:Fair enough! Do you feel that Samba de Amigo is culturally appropriative at all and as thus makes it less qualified for a classic status?
.....
With regard to my challenge...I made it through New Washington in Flashback (GEN last night. It is a really cool game - I loved hunting down a replicant last night - but I am also glad to be playing it on my PSP. To avoid "cheating", I only use save states at the game's "save points". The levels are very, very long, however, and with my schedule, there is no way that I could make it through one in a single sitting. (If I recall correctly, the "save points" in Flashback allow you to continue from them if you die, but if you turn off your system, you have to go back to the begining of the level.) That said - and now that I am more familiar with the game - I might be able to get through some of the levels in a single sitting. Doing so on my first playthough, however, would be very frustrating, and I think that the save mechanics explain why I have not yet played through this brilliant game.
