Re: Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
Also, there are design decisions that just baffle me. Having the strongest Mail in the last dungeon? What's the point? If you are that far into the game it's no longer of any use to you. If you really needed that extra damage buffer, you wouldn't have made it that far in the game in the first place. I hate when designers put the best stuff at the end of the game. It doesn't make sense. Now that the game is pretty much over, we finally give you the fun stuff. WTF?!

Did you play the first Zelda game? The strongest "armor", the red ring, was inside the final dungeon.

I thought it was stupid back then too. Tradition be damned

As well as in Link to the Past. Personally I think putting the best damage reduction in the final dungeon lets you create a more marathon dungeon, as you compensate for the attrition of a long dungeon by making it easier to survive to the end. But you still have to manage your other resources in an intelligent way. Of course, that's less of an issue in LBW (only consumable is bottles).

I think this about a lot of sequels and throwbacks and I wonder to myself if it's really the game doing something wrong or if I've just become older and more critical.
Though even without the same intangible "magic" I got from games like A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening, this has been my favorite Zelda experience since The Minish Cap.

I figure I'll leave my brief thoughts on the game here. Ultimately, it's my least favorite 3DS game I've played this year. It's not bad per se, in fact I really enjoyed the dungeon designs and the freedom in which you can take them on. The problem is the item rental shop. I'm not really a fan of it honestly. You're capable of obtaining all of the weapons practically from the very beginning and since the game is ridiculously easy there's never any threat of losing them so it feels sort've unbalanced. There's also less "mental note taking" of areas to come back to once you find a new item or weapon since you already have all the weapons. The presentation, music, controls, and even the 3D were all top notch though.
Maybe if Hero mode was available from the beginning I'd have liked it a little more.

How many 3DS games have you played in the last 20 days?

Thanks for the comments. I'll leave my own once I complete the game. I, too, question the full complement of items being available at all times. I've actually hampered myself, intentionally, by only taking 3-4 at a time. I take only what I think I will need.

Playing through this one slowly, trying to savor it.
I can't be the only one that made jokes about the volcano boss like, "Yeah that's me after some 2AM Taco Bell," right?
The hookshot dungeon is really slick. Every dungeon has been very cleverly designed so far without feeling cheap.

5, for me. Super Mario 3D Land, New Super Mario Bros. 2, Zelda Link Between Worlds, Scribblenauts Unlimited, and Resident Evil Revelations. However I haven't played a whole lot of RE: Revelations yet.
You could double that to 10 if you count the Mii games and AR Card games.
