No YLOD. I had frustratingly poor user experience. I bought a BC fat PS3 for eighty dollars. I thought that was a good price, but now I wouldn't pay eighteen dollars.
It's a long discussion that has nothing to do with Duck Tales, Wayforward, or Capcom. Sorry for going so far off topic.

XMB's much better than the various 360 UIs. Everything's laid out pretty logically.

I'm not talking about the xmb user interface. I don't mind the user interface; it's the frustrating user experience I hated. Different things have similar names.
wiki wrote:User experience (UX) involves a person's behaviors, attitudes, and emotions about using a particular product, system or service. User experience includes the practical, experiential, affective, meaningful and valuable aspects of human-computer interaction and product ownership. Additionally, it includes a person’s perceptions of system aspects such as utility, ease of use and efficiency. User experience may be considered subjective in nature to the degree that it is about individual perception and thought with respect to the system. User experience is dynamic as it is constantly modified over time due to changing usage circumstances and changes to individual systems as well as the wider usage context in which they can be found.

Look man, we basically have no idea what you're talking about because you won't tell us. You're just being really vague.

Fine. If you really want to hear about it, I'll tell you. This is going to be a lengthy post...
Day One
My co-worker wanted to sell his backwards-compatible PS3 to fund a PS4. Gameplop would only offer him sixty dollars, so I offered him eighty, and he threw in an extra controller and a charger. We both felt excited about the exchange. I went home thinking I had gotten myself a really good deal.
I was wrong.
I charged the controllers. I plugged my PS3 in with Component cables and turned on the TV set...nothing. No sound; no picture. I unplugged the PS3 and plugged it back in...still nothing. I unplugged the Component cable and tried a composite cable... nothing. I tried hdmi cable...nothing.
I was beginning to grow frustrated.
After an hour of googling I found out the proper procedure to reset the video was to turn on the console. Then power it down by holding down the touch-sensitive power button. Then hold the same button for an additional length of time untill I hear three beeps.
How the hell did Sony expect me to figure that out? Why did an unresponsive video card also disable sound?
Once I finally got audio and video output from my PS3 the very first thing I encountered was an update. It took more than an hour to update the system software. After the update I tried to play one of the two PS3 games I had handy. The first game wouldn't load at all, so I tried the second game. After I popped that disc into the PS3, I was greeted with another even longer software installation.
I gave up, and went to bed frustrated with my new PS3.
Day Two
I went back to work the next day wondering if I should try to get my money back. I decided I would give my PS3 a second chance. Since it wouldn't play any games without major hassle, I tried to set up my PS3 as a multimedia device. I googled the PS3 multimedia capabilities. It looked promising.
I don't need another DVD player, and I don't own any BluRays, but I do have a subscription to HBOgo, so I decided I would use the PS3 to stream content. I went into the Playstation store, but I saw an error message saying I needed a PSN account.
OK. Fine. I'll make a PSN account. I use my laptop to setup a PSN account under the name "samsonlonghair" and choose my password. Then I try to log into the PSN account on my PS3...no dice. I see another Error message. I try my username and password again...no dice. I restart the PS3 and try to log into PSN...no dice.
Back to google.
It turns out I had to create a new user account on the PS3. The user account is different from the PSN account, but each user account can only access one PSN account. Then associate that PS3 user account with my PSN account in order to access the Playstation store.
How exasperating! How did Sony expect me to figure this out?
Once I actually got access to the Playstation store, it turned out that there is no HBOgo app for PS3. I wasted all that time with the PS3 for nothing. The Playstation store has Netflix and Amazon Prime, but I already have those apps on my wii and on my smartphone. After two nights of frustration, the PS3 failed me as both a gaming console and as a multimedia device. I went to bed frustrated again.
Day Three
I woke up angry at my PS3. How silly is that? I like electronic gadgets, yet here I was upset at an inanimate object. I decided that if this Playstation does nothing but make me feel frustrated, I don't need it in my home. I sold it to my room mate who is giving it to her sister for Christmas. I sold the PS3 for the same eighty bucks I paid for it, and I'm glad to be rid of that machine.
I play video games to feel good. A video game console that makes me feel bad is worthless to me. I don't know if I want a 360 either as I anticipate I will run into similar problems.

so. basically. you bought a 5-year old piece of tech and were frustrated by the fact that it needed updates. then you were upset because the system didn't have a feature you just assumed it had.
got it.

Don't be so demeaning. I should not need to waste hours of my life before I can play a video game. Updates should not take the whole evening. Online networks should not be so hard to log in.
My wii is an older piece of tech that updates faster and plays games straight off the disc. I love the wii because I can sit down and just start playing a game. I hate the PS3 because everything is a hassle.

did you forget to get the manual with your purchase? did you think to read its instuctions about video and accounts?
these "problems" you've described exist for every console for the past 8 years now...what did you think would happen? Not sure why an update to the OS would take hours though...even if Sony is a bit slower than the Wii or 360 for updates, I've never had a firmware update take hours.
