Final Fantasy (the original) from FF 1 & 2:DoS (GBA)

Fixes many of the original game's issues:

Most notably -- no more wasting attacks on dead enemies. If the rest of this remake sucked, I'd still play it for that reason. I like the FF4 and up-style this game received -- it's tough trying to match all the enemies to their original names however. I had no idea "CREEP" is now "Gigas Worm". Spells have also been renamed, but instead of limited uses, MP has been introduced. Useful for more CURE spells.

Plus, the ability to save at any time. Also noticed more XP/Gil given per battle and lesser level requirements; played for only about an hour and have a Level 10 party already. I'd have to grind for about 5 times as long to do it on the NES.

Also very happy to see all the in-game music is intact, just re-arranged. They also did not get rid of the "Key Item Obtain" 7-note sound, which rules. They made it *BETTER*.

Nice to go back to 1990 :)

Noise, I am going to play this through, so you should join in.
Bone, SW is Zelda like and less RPG than S Darkness. Plus I was going to play through Shining in the Darkness next, so join Noise and I and play SW now.

I don't own Shining Wisdom. :?

Think I'll start up Magic Knight Rayearth soon, maybe on Sunday. I'm slammed with homework all week.

BoneSnapDeez wrote:So Shining Wisdom was published by Working Designs instead of Sega themselves? Interesting. I'll have to give that game a go someday. I haven't played too much of the Shining series I'm sorry to say. I think when I do I'd like to start right with the first title - Shining in the Darkness.
Yeah, and WD doing it meant that due to certain licensing issues several of the characters are misnamed. Kazin and Sarah from Shining Force II are in Shining Wisdom, but they've been renamed.

Shining Wisdom:
6 Hours in and I just saved the princess, beat her doppelganger, and am heading to the Sand Labyrinth.
I would be farther, but I decided to grind spiders for an hour so I could have enough money to buy the max number of herbs and have some money left over (about $2000) to last me the rest of the game.

The Bard's Tale (PS2):

I've beaten two of the three towers and am currently in Douby using the Upgraded Crone, Brute, Knocker, and my pet dog as my team. I'm level 15 and exploring some of the areas that have opened up, but I'm wondering if I can still find that guy who was selling multiple maps to secret areas. Any ideas? I'd like to start looking into these, since I finally have the money.

FF1 from FF1&2:DoS (GBA):

Party at Level 29, defeated the Earth and Fire fiends, on the way to the Ice Cave to get the Floater. Have not encountered enemies too difficult yet, that Fire D (I'm old school in my names) guarding the Flame Mail gave me a bit of trouble with its Blaze, but Kary (Marilith) was no problem after using AFIR (NulBlaze).

It's unfortunate that they decided to only include Easy mode in the GBA port, but after being 90% complete on my original FF NES cart and remembering all the hours poured into endless grinding (with help from the "Power Peninsula"), it's NICE to be able to go after all the chests with reckless abandon and tons more Gil than ever.

Plus, doesn't it suck when all your party members don't level up at the same time? My Fighter got the Stone eye of a Cocktrice and after restoring him, he levels up LAST now. Hate that!

I played SW for about an hour and finished the first dungeon (the castle) and am heading to the first town.
I lied about staying out of this thread. Though I still do kick chairs whenever I think about Phantasy Star II.

SB, I started on Shining Wisdom myself a couple months ago and only put about, I don't know... 3 hrs into it? I'm further than you, but maybe I'll pick it up again soon if you're going to be playing through it too.
Noise,
I'm about 7hrs in now and have beat the sand labyrinth (I spent an hour or more grinding money to max out my healing herbs).
So are you going to be picking this game back up?

ah crap. When you first mentioned it, I pulled my copy out of the shelf and placed it right next to my Saturn so I'd be reminded to play it. I haven't though. If I have some time tonight I'll try to put an hour or two in.
