The voicework, lore and setting were fine... The bits about the hypocrisy of Heaven were even slightly controversial... But it still all boils down to "Go here, do this, kill all Evils." Not that the gameplay would allow for any more depth.

Diablo 3's story is fine for the kind of game it is. I just don't play Diablo for the story.

I wanted to mention but I forgot:
I found the nonchalant way they killed off Cain and Leah very crass. I don't know if Adria never reappearing was something they just forgot about (not likely) or leeway for yet another sequel.

They need something left for the expansion pack.

The story just seemed pretty silly and kiddy after about midway in I thought, very predictable too with any of the twists. I can't compare it to the other games though, never beat D2. As others said, oh well though since that's beyond the point.

Think this'll make me finally cave and get Starcraft 2 soon though, and probably get a much better plot out of that... at least I hope. I was definitely more of a Starcraft fan back in the day, thought it had a pretty cool story too and the lore felt pretty huge.

Always been bigger on sci-fi though, so that sums it up. lol

What twists? "Everyone betrays you except the arbiter of justice" is not a "twist."
Geez, and I picked up on all this breezing through every quest dialog and skipping half the cutscenes.

My leveling secret is to spend every waking moment over a four day weekend playing Diablo 3.

Yeah, speaking of which... I started playing Monk yesterday morning and now I've already plowed through to Act 4. I'm gonna have to re-learn how to walk when this game gets done with me. I've pretty much given up on catching up to the 5(!) personal friends I have who are doing Inferno runs, though.

Am I going to be able to tank Diablo on the harder difficulties? I feel like I broke the game.

His fire ground attack gets pretty ridiculous damage in the higher difficulties. And in general monster damage scales far faster than defensive stats (health & damage reduction). I was shocked too when I tanked Diablo normal on my melee Wizard. Then I realized just how much I had in terms of defense (diamond armor + 50% damage reduction from armor + 25% damage reduction from resists).
