A recent one came to mind - Lost planet 2.

Re: What "Great" game did you end up hating?
It was more a redundant question than anything else. I was playing Dreamcast at my cousin's house about a week ago and almost every game we put in was published by Capcom. Nintendo and the other consoles are covered with them and they're usually very good games.elvis wrote:1) You just answered your own question (because the make money from EVERY CONSOLE)jmbarnes101 wrote:Why doesn't Capcom just make a console? 2) For the same reason Sega don't make consoles any more.
I think they'd be successful as a console manufacturer since they have so many great franchises but I'm sure they don't want that hassle since they do so well just as a publisher. I for one would buy a Capcom console. Heck, Nintendo should just buy Capcom and Sega and bury Sony and Microsoft beneath a pile of great games.

Not that I "hate" any of these games. But I would go as far as saying that the following games are highly overrated:
-Lunar series
-Phantasy Star series
I guess all of these were just too hyped up for me. Maybe nostalgia plays a large role in people's love for these games. Maybe they were the first RPGs for some.
The Lunar series (the two on the Sega CD) seemed to just be average jRPGs. Voice acting was laughable (not that I care much about that), story was unoriginal and boring, the characters were uninteresting and the gameplay was not innovative or original in the slightest. I did enjoy the music in both games though, so it wasn't all bad.
The only Phantasy Star game I enjoyed was the first (on the SMS). At least at its time it was original, and while having quite a few random encounters, the amount was nothing compared to 2 and 3. People claim that the games have "deep" or "meaningful" stories that tie closely together with each other. With the exception of a few piece of lore, the games barely tie together at all. And the stories are just average. Nothing too exciting. The number of random encounters just kills that series, in my opinion. A lot of people say PS4 was the best of the series (some say the best RPG on the Genesis), but I think that is only because it sucked less than 2 and 3.
Maybe someone can explain why they enjoyed these games so much. Oh, and I have played them all recently, so no nostalgia for me.

Hey now, Naughty Dog gave us Rings of Power. Once you get past the shaky controls, it's really a very enjoyable game (if you like open ended games that don't hold your hand).Gamerforlife wrote: I think Crash Bandicoot is really the ONLY great thing Naughty Dog has done to this day.

Hype ruins your perception on everything, seriously people need to quit constantly falling for it and wondering why they were dissapointed.

Strider for the Genesis.
The gameplay was boring and the controls felt unresponsive. The sound was atrocious. It is the only game I have ever muted due to the horror of the noises it emitted. Why people consider this game to be one of the greatest genesis games I will never understand. I also know that people consider it to be "great" because it was one of the first arcade "perfect" ports for the genesis, but that doesn't excuse it for being a piece of shit. Maybe it was "great" in 1990 but it does not hold up today. For example Ghouls 'N' Ghosts is also one of those arcade "perfect" ports and it is fantastic. Hell it came out a full year before strider. But still Strider isn't enjoyable at a contextual level nor at an objective level.

Last thing I want is for any of the companies to gain complete control over the market. I don't trust Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft or anybody else to keep delivering great games and hardware without the fire that fuels them: competition.jmbarnes101 wrote:Heck, Nintendo should just buy Capcom and Sega and bury Sony and Microsoft beneath a pile of great games.

I think as long as Miyamoto is where he is Nintendo will continue to pump out good stuff. What I worry about is the day the magic dies. And we're all going to be around to see it. It'll be the end of an era.the7k wrote:Last thing I want is for any of the companies to gain complete control over the market. I don't.jmbarnes101 wrote:I think they [Capcom] would be successful as a console manufacturer
Look at the battle that already exists of "exclusives", and how much money and bullshit gets thrown around there. Releasing their own console would burn a lot of bridges, and force people to buy their product just to play their games (which most folks realistically wouldn't do - a very small minority of the gaming population owns consoles from all manufacturers).
You grossly trivialised it by calling it a "hassle". It's a whole lot more than a mere inconvenience. Capcom are in a good place at the moment pumping out games on the most popular platforms on the planet. Forcing people to shell out for their own dedicated console just to play Capcom games would probably shed 80% of their market over night.
It's pretty clear this is yet another off-the-cuff comment by someone who hasn't spent a great deal of time out in the real world dealing with things like business, finance, and the other necessary evils that drive a company. It smacks of someone rather idealistic and most likely still in school with no comprehension of what drives a real business in the real world.

Strider 2 on the Playstation is soooo much better, but life is funny that way. The great sequel gets ignored while the gaming community goes on and on about the overrated, dated originalMr.White555 wrote:Strider for the Genesis.
