I still don't understand the lack of cross-platform play in most things. I mean FFXI proved it was more than possible, so why don't we see it more?

I can understand the no cross between pc and console, I mean look up Shadowrun for the 360/PC and UT3 for the PS3. But between consoles is all Microsoft.

The biggest cross platform genre is the FPS, and pitting console folks against PC folks is just unfair.

That's a lame excuse because A) Developers can always support mouse/keyboard on consoles and B) Said mouse and keyboard can be bought for FAR less than any gamepad on the market. It's become more of a taboo to discuss the lack of mouse/keyboard support.

Personally I do not understand why modern consoles do not come with internet browser, keyboard and mouse included.

Ditto. The Dreamcast had all three and a number of games supported the keyboard/mouse but it all kept regressing until we now have PC wannabe consoles with none of the functionality of the PC.

But how many people do you know that use a keyboard and mouse on a console, especially when it's hooked up to a television? You can't play with them on a couch or chair, and I don't think using a keyboard/mouse is ever going to catch on with console players (for good reason). And, to MrPopo's point, any half decent PC player with a mouse can probably beat the pants off the very good players with a controller
