So when recommending a screen it doesn't matter what you recommend. Twp weeks later the seller wil be selling something that is now different.

Heck I have bough 4 screens from a seller in one batch and had 2 different lcd's even though the casing was identical.

Yeah, I guess i just want to best avoid getting a screen that has problems.. Knowing what you've stated above, whats the best advice to follow for best chances? would you say staying with a 320x240 res screen will give better chances of not having resolution/black-white issues? I mean are there some things we can just try to look for to better our chances?

And i've seen quite a few screens that are 3.5, but is the real issue the thickness? is this the type of mod where if the driver board and screen aren't perfectly thin enough its not gonna fit in the nomad? Does that end up being a problem with most of these modern cheap screens, them not fitting?

Well I have found that most of these screen manufacturers lie about the resolution. I personally think all of the 3.5" are around 320x240. There are a few that are slightly better, but as I've stated , they change so much who can tell.

Some will have issues some won't but it changes every time you buy one. That's one of the reasons I gave up modding them. Buy 10 screens from a seller and some would work, some wouldn't.

And yes thickness matters. But there are some really thin ones out now.

Yup thats the one i've been watching.. heck, i'll give it a shot.. worst case i can re-sell it on ebay for around what i paid to someone else who will use it for some other project..

Whats gonna be my easiest way to power this up? I'll just use the AV out of the nomad, but i'd prefer not to have to cut and soldier wires just to test if the screen displays right?

See that red wire on the plug that comes with the screen. It takes a center positive 12v source if I remember correctly. Any 12v power plug you have that fits will most likely work.

The screen probably uses less than 140mA. So almost every 12v power adapter will handle it.

Okay cool, When it arrive i'll see if i have anything in my big bag of ac adapters that fits it.. I'll let you guys know if it it works or doesnt work.. Not that it will help much since they change so fast..

If the guy who got his off amazon tests his, i would be curious to know his findings!

Yeah, definitely test it with the video out on the Nomad before installing it. I made that mistake with my last batch of monitors :x

Jmustang1968 wrote:Well, I bought 1 nomad screen from the linked ebay seller and it worked well.

I then bought 2 more and they were slightly different. It seems they wont display 240p and try to instead display 480i. This causes the screens to be in black & white and with vertical lines :(

I am going to try some screens from amazon now... Seems to be hit or miss with these.

The same problem here, i bought the screen that was linked and the screen is black and white and shut down in few seconds. Have a way to make this work without need buy another screen? If i need buy another screen what is the better?

christoph wrote:This screen ended up working great for anyone looking to do this. It is night and day better in quality, the original Nomad screen is terrible.

In case this listing dies like the previous ones, the seller is: soonhua_digital

Also the place holder image they used for future reference:

It really is a painfully easy mod, everybody with a Nomad and basic soldering skills should give it a go. It will only cost you around $25. All you need is a soldering iron, a screwdriver and the screen.

You solder only 4 wires (2 grounds, 1 power and 1 video) just like what is shown in the original post.

Here is an image of the back of the screen linked above so you can see the exact solder points:

Yellow = video
Black = ground
Red = power

It is difficult to get a quality picture of the screen, but these shots should do the job in illustrating how much nicer it looks:

I bought from this seller but i not received the same model screen. Now the screen show vertical lines and just black and white colors. I'm very unhappy. Anyone can help me to fix that without buy another screen???
