I can't help you much, but I can tell you that a good vacation (visiting a new place) can work wonders. It works best if you are in a totally different country... its like hitting restart on a computer thats been running for 3 years

Is it true that in the U.S. you get 1-2GB data plans per month only?
I was complaining that in my country we get 7GB for $13 monthly. 1-2Gb is not enough for anything.

What does your data plan cost if you are in the U.S.?

If you're talking mobile, then that'd be fairly typical for a single line plan (at several times the cost of what you pay, to boot). However, there's also an assumption of using other networks. I barely even use mobile data, since I'm using WiFi at home and work, and only have a 15 minute commute between the two.
My home internet has, I think, a soon-to-be-implemented 300GB/month cap, and my usage is usually more in the low 200GB range.

Some people are still getting grandfathered into unlimited data plans, though those can wind up getting throttled after a certain amount. While a good amount of it can be attributed to corporate greed, on a practical level, the infrastructure simply isn't there to support the sheer volume of traffic that can wind up getting generated.

Data caps? Seriously with all the huge wealth sylicon valley has created for your economy, you'd think that your government (by which I mean both parties) could get behind developing a first world internet network in the entire country.

Nah our government is like, "What's this thing you call...the internet? Oh you mean the thing Al Gore made? Yeah... not important."

Ironically the only time in my life I've had truly unlimited internet was while I was in Turkey, and I only paid $40 a month for it. That, combined with no copyright laws, equaled tons and tons of torrenting.

In the US it was like $90 for 350 MB per day from Hughesnet, and in Japan I'm paying $75 for 100 GB per month.

I thought my internet was bad until I saw some of the comparisons on here. For being in a somewhat rural area I guess I'm pretty lucky. 10Mbps down, 750Kbps up, and latency under 60 ms most of the time. They do occasionally oversell and this makes problems, but for the most part it's reliable. No hard caps either, they don't even send a notice if I go over the suggested cap. All for $40 a month. I suppose it isn't too much to complain about.

Cell plan options on the other hand....
