I went and saw The Imitation Game today. It's been out for a while but I haven't seen anyone comment on it here. I thought it was quite a well done look at Alan Turing's work during WWII to break Enigma, with some flash forwards and backs about his homosexuality. I liked that the movie didn't just end with "We broke Engima, yay!"; they went into the aftermath which is more complicated than many people think.

Wasn't the enigma just a small upgrade on a publicly-patented encryption device  But all the same I'm interested in seeing this too once it hits retail/streaming.

I hope to see this sometime this week as part of my "month of watching the Best Picture nominees". I will report in on all of them close to Oscar time :)

Thought I would give it a go since Netflix is streaming it now. Overall it was fun to watch but not really anything special. The story just felt tossed together much like This is the End and overall it was pretty weak. The only thing that really made the film work was the chemistry between Rogen and Franco, but their roles are the same as pretty much every movie they are in together :P.

I agree. In fact I wrote a rather scathing review of this same flick about ten pages back. I caught a bit of flack for it too, but I stand by my assessment. It's a crummy movie.

In my eyes, and in my brain, the best way for a Buddy Comedy to work is some conflict or wide variance of character. If not, it's two dudes just having fun, which is fun for them but not for the audience. THE INTERVIEW is just two dudes having fun.

This can work (BILL AND TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE) if the character's aren't worn out and stale. But a good bromance as seen in BEVERLY HILLS COP, LETHAL WEAPON, and even TWINS are great because there is some level of character development. In THE INTERVIEW it's just the same couple being the same couple.

Not bashing on Seth though. His character in KNOCKED UP was incredible.

Totally agree I loved Pineapple Express but every movie since then has just felt like more of the same. Franco is always the lovable idiot while Rogen plays the slightly more reasonable idiot who tries to hold the situation together.

I have to agree to some extent. Though I watched with my jam headphones(mistook them for jbl's for some odd reason....they both start with J so same difference in my head when thinking about it) and I don't think I could listen to it over a speaker. I think this movie is a big reason I need some decent small speakers for my room because I feel like otherwise there's parts of some of this music I miss. Though I'm currently stuck on "One more time", "Digital love", and "Stronger Faster Harder Better" (I need to look up what the second one is technically because it's not digital love there's one that plays right before it after one more time). I need to find where to buy this movie(itunes needs this bad  )

Yeah, I'm pretty tired of Seth Rogan and James Franko's buddy comedies. I didn't like Pineapple express enough to finish watching it. I didn't care much for This is the End either. I probably won't bother watching the interview until it comes to Netflix.
