That's why I refuse to jump on the Amiibo band wagon. I have bought 4. All the zelda related ones and only because zelda is my jam and they will look great on my shelves as decoration.

Thing is I dont see Amiibos reaching near the same level of craze. If anything, they will just taper off and settle near retail.

I got caught up in amiibo w/all the craze - yeah. I thankfully drew the Beanie analogy early on and went full stop on collecting these things. I'll keep one each of a few of them for their functionality aspects - but will not be collecting them as display pieces.

I dread thinking what I spent on beanies and saw the same thing happening. At my peak, buying 3-4 a week at $7/ea, 1996-1998, I had over 500 beanies. I was a womanizing alcoholic with the most adorable collection of stuffed bears you ever saw.

I wouldnt mind and am somewhat close to having 1 of each Amiibo, for collection and display purposes. But I am not going to spend much more than retail for any of them. If I miss one and it is 20-25 or more than I will just miss that one.

Oh man, that picture of the couple splitting up the collection on the floor of the court. It's sad they were divorcing, but that picture is just hilarious. Be especially wary of anything that the manufacturer themselves prints "collectible" or "collect them all" on the package. It's one thing when people convince themselves, through artificial scarcity or other means, that something is the new hotness, but another when the company making them outright dictates that to you.

Maple the Bear was the first to go.

No chance. As a state employee, my salary is on the public record and anyone who is nosy enough can see what I and other similarly-employed professors make. It is true that some professors do very well, but they are usually at more prestigious schools (especially private ones) and/or have been teaching a long time. I have hardly been teaching long enough or done anything "superstar-ish" enough to be earning or demanding anything close to what the top half of the profession earns.
