You know how people say that your opinion can't be wrong? They're wrong.ZenErik wrote:My main complaint about a lot of today's RPGs is that they're TOO LONG. I know that might seem weird because a lot of people love RPGs for their length. But give me 10 - 40 hours. No more please. 50 absolute max.
None of that Persona 3/4 crap. Don't get me wrong, it's a great series, but 80 - 100+ hours is just too much... in my opinion, obviously.
What RPG are you playing right now?

I definitely hope the hype isn't false and Xenoblade will be about 100 hours long for me. Can't wait!
Long games will never be a complaint of mine, because this hobby isn't a race to me.

I've been trying to work my way through Final Fantasy for NES. Last time I had a chance to play it, I had just beaten the second orb dungeon (the one in the volcano).

Act Raiser, which some people consider an RPG and others don't. I like it though. Getting ready to play the first FF again.

I agree with this. I've never seen an 80 hour game accomplish something that a 30 hour game couldn't. All the extra length feels like padding and is generally pretty tedious to slog through. Who the hell has time for these 80-100 hour games anyway? I'm lucky to get 2 hours in of video gaming a day (maybe 4 hours on a Saturday), something like Persona 4 would take me months.ZenErik wrote:My main complaint about a lot of today's RPGs is that they're TOO LONG. SO MUCH CONTENT
Strange Journey "beat" me, and I played it on a really boring one-week trip. At first uncovering every square was enough to get me to keep playing, but then you realize that's all there is and catchin' em all stops being fun..

Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
I had gotten just past that part on Final Fantasy Origins. Last last year I started up again on the NES and got to the marsh cave. It isn't as difficult as I remember. It definitely seemed harder on the PlayStation.ElkinFencer10 wrote:I've been trying to work my way through Final Fantasy for NES. I have completed the game probably 10 times when I was young, using a variety of parties.

Yeah. That's why I skip so many of today's RPG's. I'm sure some of them have well written stories, great mechanics, interesting plots... but for the love of Pete surely they could tell the story in less than 50 hours!ZenErik wrote:None of that Persona 3/4 crap. I think a lot do, if you actually stick (mostly) to just the main plot arc.Opa Opa wrote:Yeah. That's why I skip so many of today's RPG's.
