Saw Hobbit 3, and I very much enjoyed it as a movie. And I still plan on editing it down to the Rankin Bass storyline. How Thorin gets Ocrist back is my absolute favorite part.

It was not a great movie, but it was a fun movie and much better than Hobbit 2 (stupid Peter Jackson bringing Thrain back to life).

I actually thought that Hobbit 2, as a film, was the best of the three. All of them are worse than any of the films in the LOTR trilogy, though.

I was perfectly happy with Hobbit 2, until Thrain showed up in Dol Guldur. I did enjoy how they handled Beorn in both films (especially Hobbit 2 EE).

I haven't watched the EEs of any of the Hobbit films yet - I will maybe do so when they box them into a trilogy on Blu...but I find it hard to believe that even MORE stuff added to these films improves them in any way.

In Hobbit 2 EE Beorn is introduced to the Hobbits in a way exactly like in the book. Touches like that are added in EE. But they added Thrain to the entire Dol Guldur scene to explain about the rings. It helps people who have never read the books, but it was stupid. Just stupid.

Thrain is Thorins father. He is the crazy Dwarf that Gandalf meets in the destroyed castle.

It's only in the Extended Edition, not the theatrical cut.

Oh, this explains it.

I watched Begin Again last night. Its entirely predictable, and entirely sappy. But by the gods is it not the most charming film Ive watched in a long time. I really enjoyed it in the end.
