WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
Re: WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
I don't have any so no. I've just used all the Nintendo slots only. I really have been putting off buying Genesis games because I was saving for a new laptop I just finally bought last night.
Once I have a few bucks back in my pocket I think I'll be looking to reacquire just a few games. I'm thinking mainly Dune 2, Star Control, Virtua Racing, Castlevania, Ghouls n Ghosts and maybe a couple of others. The Genesis for the period had some nice games but long term most of it never really captures me anymore. I'm sure it'll grow slowly with time. I used to have that atgames sd card enabled portable and it was fun for a time and I had the whole US library on the card minus games that wouldn't work (anything with saving, contra.)

Took a break from the translation craziness, but I just purchased Treasure Hunter G and Front Mission from an eBay seller.
No idea when I'll get to playing all of these RPGs.

In case you haven't noticed, Hyperkin quietly released new firmware version 2.2 on Monday.
The only change it has is internal changes in preparation for upcoming hardware revision.
So that means prepare soon for a new hardware version too.
Get it at their site (or just wait till the new hardware version)

It's not what you think. I asked about that, and they're retooling some of the parts inside, not to make them any better or worse parts (like a Super R5 or whatever) it's just that they designed this thing years ago and certain parts licenses/rights either passed their time limit or are no longer made so it's a revision, and of course the european CE cert headache too. Think of it like the original PSX from Sony in the mid 90s where it had a different board than the one released a year or so later. Still runs the same stuff, functions the same way, just differing guts where needed to get the same effect.
If anything the only difference will be the poor retron tech having a headache now crosschecking firmware upgrades between both sets of systems to make sure both work correctly and one or the other doesn't pitch a fit.

That would explain why they didn't announce it then. for some reason I thought it was gonna be a new update to 0.2.2. So basically I can keep 2.0 BETA 6 on my unit then, nothing's gonna really be improved unless you get a newly-built R5.Tanooki wrote:It's not what you think. All I know is that under the hood stuff with the genesis emulator that had some trolls pitching a bitch was dealt with, but to what that means no idea. Whatever it takes to get the whole recode set so both styles of the same identical output hardware perform the same is when the more quick updates will return with patches, tweaks, and additions.

Newegg has them in stock and on their flash site for $129 (Black) and $139 (Gray).
I have a s-video modded Genesis, s-video cord on my SNES and a modded oXBOX all running on my HDTV... yet I still want one of these. Someone please talk me out of picking one up.

I'm afraid I can't do that.SpaceBooger wrote:Someone please talk me out of picking one up.
Luckily for me I placed my original order with Newegg at $99, shipped at launch with no delays and they even waived the shipping cost.
The gray unit is now more than the black? Usually it's the other way around.

My modded oXBOX is loaded with Coinops6 and has NES, SNES, MD, MCD, Master System, Arcade and other consoles. The oXBOX is hooked up via component cables (on my 50 inch 720p HDTV) and supports save states for longer RPGs and NES games I want to beat the easy way.ExedExes wrote:I'm afraid I can't do that.SpaceBooger wrote:Someone please talk me out of picking one up.![]()

If I want original hardware, my SNES and Genesis are modded to use s-video. I still don't see the justification of spending a ton of money for HDMI and save states... yet I still want one just because. The only advantage to the Retron 5 is that I could use my NES controller for NES games.

Re: WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
Assuming you already own NES games (Or else the Retron wouldn't be of much use to your NES controller), wouldn't an S-Video modded Top Loader be around the same price? (Unless they shot up since I last checked, which is entirely possible)SpaceBooger wrote: The only advantage to the Retron 5 is that I could use my NES controller for NES games.
Then you could use your NES controller and not emulate the carts you own. And, you have the option of using a flash cart, which as far as I know, the Retron does not support (correct me if I'm wrong!).
Of course the retron does more than that, but if NES is the main selling point for it, since you already have the other systems and a good emulation setup, I think its at least worth considering.
Plus, someone has to try to talk you out of it
