Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
Apparently people in Australia are having trouble telling the difference between the consoles and the games they play.

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
Why are people having so much trouble telling the Wii U apart, but not other sequel consoles?

Well there were issues with the 3DS to being with, people thought it was just another update, similar to the DSi.ZeroAX wrote:Why are people having so much trouble telling the Wii U apart, but not other sequel consoles?
It is not the consumers fault, it is on Nintendo, they were trying to use the popularity of the Wii to push sales and it has backfired hugely.
Sony do it right. Just add a number, so it's really clear its the sequel to the old console.
Even if they went the old school 'Super' route they did with the NES > SNES, it still sounds like a new console. Another stupid thing was to make the console LOOK JUST LIKE THE Wii! If your not into gaming culture, it is not hard to see how easy it is to get confused.
Also does not help many adverts, even those from Nintendo themselves, show people using the Wiimote to control the system.
Not to mention, they released the Wii Mini within 1-6 months of releasing the Wii U, why the hell would you release two consoles so close to one another in name that are a generation apart! Just to add to the confusion of course.
IT IS JUST STUPID and while I love Nintendo and the Wii U, it has to be one of the dumbest decisions they have made in recent times.
In short! People are having trouble because!\:
- It has the word Wii in it!
- It looks just like a Wii!
- Adverts, even those from Nintendo show the Wiimote.
- They released an updated console in a similar time span, called the Wii Mini
EDIT: At the end of the day, what would have been so horrible about calling it Wii 2, it even fucking rhymes with Wii U!

I really think it is all in the name. When it was announced as WiiU and was displayed as a pad without a system, critics and fans alike were confused about whether it was attached to the Wii or was it its own system or if it ran in tandem with another system.ZeroAX wrote:Why are people having so much trouble telling the Wii U apart, but not other sequel consoles?
You need to either have a completely different name, or involve a number system ala the competition. Also the console itself is very comparable to the original wii. Yes there are differences, but from a distance, not so much.

At least this time they changed the color of the game boxes. The 3DS just switched the side of the logo

I've seen this at Target and Bestbuy, which really doesn't help Nintendo at all. Of course, I've seen some Targets and Bestbuys do the same for the 3DS. The responsibility is on Nintendo, though. They need to direct the retailers in regards to the marketing of their consoles.ejamer wrote:Some major retailers (including Amazon.ca) apparently can't be bothered to differentiate between Wii and Wii U games, and Nintendo's messaging hasn't been much better... so consumer confusion is no surprise.

On the accessory side the Wii and WiiU controllers share the blue labeling. I was hoping the older boxes of the Wiimote would go on sale. Not sure if they did, seemed like they were pulled and the blue boxes took over.ZeroAX wrote:At least this time they changed the color of the game boxes. The 3DS just switched the side of the logo
