In LttP? I agree. The characters in Link's Awakening were much more memorable (specially your relation with Marle), and that ending was a real tearjerker.Reprise wrote: it feels like there's very little narrative or things that really drive the story forward.

lol "Zelda" + "story"
I love LttP and Link's Awakening, but they are no exception to the idea that Zelda games traditionally have pretty piss poor stories.

Stories yes, but the characters and setting can make up for it by making it a "world" you "care about". For example I spent countless hours following the NPCs in Windwaker to see their daily lives, but I didn't care for them at all in Twilight Princess, nor in general did I ever imagine how my actions would change the game world.dsheinem wrote:lol "Zelda" + "story"

So do you prefer games that have the dungeons/world set up as a grid like the original Zelda?ZeroAX wrote:I think it has a lot to do with dungeon legnth. LTTP has longer dungeons because it's a console game, and I get tired. LA's dungeons are shorter and thus more to my liking.noiseredux wrote: Yeah, that is really odd. Cuz Awakening feels like a straight sequel to LTTP. Like, I'm not sure how you could like one and not the other?
You should try Golden Axe Warrior and the Neutopia games.
Moving on, I'm still on the fence about getting Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity. It got middling reviews and I don't really care for Pokemon that much, but I do love Mystery Dungeon games and roguelikes in general.

Nah, I think it has more to do with the fact that LttP has a lot of backtracking in its dungeons. Specially if you die at the boss fights (which I do a lot) it's really annoying to have to go through the same rooms to use the same switches to open up a path you have already opened, but it closed cause of a switch you pressed later on, so you have to repeat it again... yeah I'm just bitching cause the game is hardBoneSnapDeez wrote: So do you prefer games that have the dungeons/world set up as a grid like the original Zelda?
I honestly don't know. I just find the dungeons AND overworld fun in Link's Awakening, but in LttP I only like the overworld.

I just don't know... is LTTP hard for any newer players out there? It's a case of I've replayed it so many times over the years I could probably draw out maps of the entire game and whenever I play it, it's like I'm programmed to automatically get everything without even thinking. I can't even explain it. lol, I replayed LA a few years back and it was way easier than I ever remembered too, but I was coming out of the Oracle games which were a fair bit tougher.ZeroAX wrote:Nah, I think it has more to do with the fact that LttP has a lot of backtracking in its dungeons. Overall I think it's just me and Zelda, Metroid, the SoTN styled Castlevania's... I never have trouble with these games. Majora's Mask and Metroid Prime 2 are some of the tougher ones.
Link's Adventure is balls hard, but obviously way different haha. The original Zelda I find pretty tough too, but yeah it's just simply in the combat. Some of those later dungeons get so crazy with enemies filling up the screen.

Well I find Megaman games "slightly above average" difficulty, so perhaps it has a lot to do with how much you've become used to a gameXeogred wrote: I just don't know... is LTTP hard for any newer players out there? So who is picking up Pokemon on Saturday? I have it pre ordered for my Wife, but am on the fence about getting a copy for myself (we both have our own XL's) I haven't really played a pokemon game since Red/Blue, and am intrigued about this new one.

I have two conflicting advices:jay_red wrote:So who is picking up Pokemon on Saturday? I have it pre ordered for my Wife, but am on the fence about getting a copy for myself (we both have our own XL's) I haven't really played a pokemon game since Red/Blue, and am intrigued about this new one.
1. No Pokemon since original Game Boy?!? You have some catching up to do (and so do I
2. Well, heck, if you are getting your wife one, you may as well get the complimenting version for yourself so that you can play and trade along with.
...and finally, maybe the new release is the way to go, seeing as how Pokemon retains its value pretty well across the board on any of the respective Nintendo platforms. I's not like you'll be paying much more.
In any case, if you enjoyed the originals, I predict some Poke-gaming in your future.
...
Also, I'll be getting a 2DS this weekend, mostly because it's the odd thing to do. Haven't decided on Pokemon X/Y for myself yet either.
...just another lost soul...
