Well yes you got me there. The Simpsons has be on a long road downhill for a very long time now. That won't change my view on Family Guy though.

My problem with Family Guy is the constant references to various pop culture. Many times Peter has a flashback or whatever and I have no idea what is being referenced, so I dont find it funny. Its weak that the show pretty much relies on other material to make itself funny, VS the Simpsons can be funny to anyone. A pop culture reference every once in a while, but not getting every joke from some other piece of material like Family Guy. The Simpsons is just funny, but Family Guy just makes fun of everything possible.

Anime on the other hand just confuses me. I will say that Akira blew the top off my skull, but not anything besides that. Maybe Spirited Away?

Anime can be really good, just watch the quality stuff. Here are some greats that anyone Anime fans or not should watch:

The Big O: One of the first Anime series I ever saw. It draws heavy inspiration from Batman: The Animated Series and it shows with excellent direction and plot structure (Until the last two eps.) af few references (Including a whole tribute ep. to Batman) and a classy, cool feeling with it's jazzy soundtrack:


Cowboy Bebop: One of the all time greats of Anime and an absolute blast to watch:


I understand how Family Guy can suck when you don't get some of the references, but then again like I said I don't really take the show seriously at all.

Agreed as well, but it's not like I won't stop trying to show people some of the coolest things I've ever seen and hoping that they like it.

True, but I'm just trying to make a broad generalization. After all, it's best to know the medium/genre as a whole before exploring all the various sub-genres.

Okay I watched that segment from "The Big O" and I must admit I was intrigued. As for Cowboy Bebop, my sister(the biggest anime nut I know) has tried over and over again, but i just cant get into it. Seriously though, that first clip was nice. I totally feel a Batman vibe with that main character and thats NEVER a bad thing.

I think I will borrow some of my sisters DVD sets of The Big O and check it out.

You will not be disappointed, The Big O is almost Batman to the point at times and is great all around.

Plus the intro on all episodes from the third on is a pretty cool nod to the Flash Gordon intro by Queen.

To pull this back on topic, wasn't there a Cowboy Bebop movie? I used to love that series when they showed it on Adult Swim years ago. Maybe that should be the next movie I see.

You take that back RIGHT NOW or I'll come over there and beat the snot out of you. Disney distributed it here and probably helped arranged the dubbing, but credit for its awesomeness goes to Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli.
