What shmup are you playing now?

I might ask for some advice at the shmups.com forums, this may very well my first 1CC in any arcade game not called OutRun.

Not easy to 1cc the original Outrun. Outrunners, however, I've done many times.

You think so? I didn't discover OutRun until somewhat recently and didn't have a problem with it. Sure, it took me some tries but I think everyone can do it without an issue.

I do agree that OutRunners is easy to 1CC, it's a multiplayer game at its core and roads are unusually empty and wide. You also run reaaaaally fast. But it's a fun, fun game, I recommend it.

Turbo OutRun, now that's one I haven't beaten in one credit. It requires memorization to beat because your car is so huge it blocks your view of the road but it's decent.

I've only got to the 4th leg of any course I take. Maybe the machines I've been playing are at a higher difficulty?

It's a shame about Turbo OutRun because that one's great. The large car does make for a problem.

Its that first shmup 1cc that really hooks you. Looking back on a game you have conquered that once seemed nearly impossible really gives you the feels.

It's hard deciding what to play at the moment. I recently picked up Gigawing so am really enjoying that. It's the third time I've owned it (but first time I've really got into it) and I think it's finally "found its place in my shmuppers heart"!

I'm also enjoying Cotton 100% which I also saw and fancied. I'd love to get Cotton Boomerang, but in the meantime this is a fine shooter, in my opinion anyway. I don't usually go for cute-em-ups but I like the softcore gothy feel to it (Hey - I love Deathsmiles too!!!)

Would love to find an affordable copy of the Salamander package for Saturn. Had a chance to play the arcade machine at recent Play Expo 2013 and really enjoyed the game.

It can be difficult if you play it on level 3 - maybe play it early in your run? The boss is cake on level 1 difficulty, shoot 10 seconds, bomb, shoot 10 seconds - defeated.

the Gorge is easy. It's just the last level that fucks me up. There's just so much happening all at once from every direction.

I still need to just bear down and get the ALL. I've been to that last boss so many times on scoring runs - just need to focus and clear it finally.

You can access the Gorge before you've finished the first 6 stages?


And yeah, I typically play it on level 3 difficulty. Maybe I should dial it back to 2.

I find the Gorge much harder than the final stage.



What is the preferred version to play anyway? I'm never sure whether I should try Arcade, 360, MBL, 1.1 or what. It's kinda confusing.
