That scenario would describe the first stage of Manhunt 2.

And then midway through they ruined the game by introducing guns, just like the first one.

I didn't enjoy guns in Manunt, but I still enjoyed the game enough to finish it. Manhunt 2 was bad from the start, guns made it unbearable. Disregard this has nothing to do with FF spin-offs. Well, some Final Fantasy games have guns.

An interesting thought -- The Final Fantasy Legend was the second "Final Fantasy" game we got in the states. To us playing RPGs way back then it felt like a proper sequel.

It totally did. I remember getting it when it was released and yeah, to me that was "the new FF game."

I wish I knew what issue it was -- cuz I own it -- but Nintendo Power once had this spread "clarifying" confusing game series. But all they did was make things more obtuse.

Like, they listed all the "Final Fantasy" games in order of release date as a giant cluster, with no mention of the Saga and Seiken Densetsu connections. No mention of the titles that weren't localized.

Then they listed several other series of games, but omitted entries that weren't released on Nintendo systems. Like, no Metal Gear 2 on the Metal Gear list. No Ghouls 'n Ghosts on the Ghosts 'n Goblins list, and so on.

So, what are all of the Final Fantasy spin-offs? What can be included in this list? I'm curious what Noise feels is ok to play.

my personal take on this new free-form TR is that whatever "Final Fantasy Spin-Off" anyone actually wants to play enough so that they'll participate is good. If you think the Saga games are spin-offs - fine. If you needed a reason to play Kingdom Hearts - go for it. If X-2 is one you've been meaning to play - here's your excuse. You'd rather play a racing game than RPG? Or maybe you're in a fighting game mood? We've got Chocobo Racing and Dissidia for you, friend.

I'm 100% for inclusion with the goal of just having an active thread of discussion. There were way too many months last year where only one or two people wanted to play the game that was selected (or maybe only one or two had access to it?), and we had TR threads with like 7 posts for the whole month. So my own personal view is: play something that you feel like fits the theme and talk about what you're playing.
