I'm a big fan of the franchise, but I found the GBC version to look, feel, and play in a way that felt ramshackle and amateur. It's like Capcom got a bunch of interns to make the game or something.
However, this
Bionic Commando game is awesome on Game Boy:
It is basically a futuristic remake of the original NES game.
I agree. I know a lot of people love Elite Forces but I really don't like it. Both the graphics and gameplay just feel off.
Capcom actually didn't have much to do with it, it was developed by Nintendo Software Technology in the US. Kind of funny when you consider the Game Boy Color Zelda games were developed by Capcom.
I do also really love the Game Boy port of the NES game. It plays great and the graphics are really well detailed. In some ways it's an improvement over the NES game, specifically in the polish department, though it's hard to top exploding Hitler heads.
Capcom really kicked ass on the Game Boy in general.

You're right, I forgot about that. And knowing that answers so many questions about that game. Yeah... NST huh? They're known for such "classics" as the GBC port of
Crystalis and
Metroid Prime Hunters on DS. Probably the best thing the developer put out are the
Mario vs. Donkey Kong games. Which I don't care for.
I wish Capcom had gotten Flagship to develop
Elite Forces.

NST did 'creative' stuff with their franchises. Go look how they butchered parts of Crystalis on the GBC too, but then you slide over to the N64 and they released one of the best Ridge Racer releases ever.
Personally I've never much liked Bionic Commando on the NES, if the GB is much the same I'd not be into it. I never got comfy with the claw mechanic on it and it was maddeningly stupid to me that a dude couldn't lift his foot up on a knee level step and keep walking as it seemed convoluted completely. The GBC one is the same in that respect, but it also has some fun sniping moments. The real bitch with that one is the awful save mechanic because if you lose any lives or health playing, it saves that too, so you can trap yourself just a few levels in on deaths door. I just grabbed it as it was under $5, figured it couldn't hurt.
Anyway I found a few more things today. I paid $28 for Mario Picross, Street Fighter Alpha and Game & Watch Gallery 3, then another spot had the Tomb Raider GBC(1st one) for $5. I've had all but picross before, figured I'd try it. The set of three were priced higher, got it lowered quite a bit (picross for some dumb reason was $22 alone and SFA was $14.) Dude did have TMNT and SML but they were yellowed and not worth it.

Do you know how heavy the bionic arm is? It's amazing Rad Spencer was a bad enough dude to be able to walk with it on at all! Now asking him to lift his foot up on a ledge, and then push his own body weight up
plus the weight of the bionic arm upwards too, man that's just asking too much of one soldier.

I'm at work right now and can't look it up but Gbc Tomb Raider is a Pitfall clone right?

Picross is cool stuff. One of the few puzzlers I enjoy.

Even if 5,000 Game Gear systems get cannibalized for modding purposes, it's likely a smaller number than were just thrown in the trash by retailers. Over 11 Million were sold, not counting crap sitting in warehouses.
Even if it were 100,000 units (which is a ridiculous, unrealistic, number of cannibalized systems) it wouldn't even dent the amount that were distributed for collection or purist purposes. (That's not even 1% of total number of systems sold)

I wonder how many Game Gears were thrown out because people thought they were broken when all they needed were new capacitors.

It's like Prince of Persia controls and fluidity meets the Pitfall Mayan Adventure type layout, just without all the collectible garbage other than health packs and ammo.
