How is your Dreamcast gaming going on?
Re: How is your Dreamcast gaming going on?
Just curious, might pick up e.g.g next Friday when I get paid. What's the average price I should pay for the game.

Ack ftw, I have nothing to say, shame on me.
@ SteveyMajors, my wife destroys me in every fighting game and puzzle game ever, forget it she straight smacks me up. It funny too because shes not the gamer type at all and the first time she really started playing with me was with Peggle, we played for 12 hours straight!
Since then she's been very open to games, I pick them out for her knowing what she would like without her knowing she would. lol
@ mas- E.G.G if were talking complete condition and online sources. Would probably be around $20, I think is about fair, $15 & under is a no brainer. Higher for the impatient or unlucky bidders, but yea I can not praise the game enough!
I think I know where most people get stuck at and dont continue any further which is a shame since I think most people should at least make it to the first boss before writting it off. Its hand drawn enviorments are unreal, everything else is pretty much of a high quality as well. Some gripes from hear say were the difficulty and messey translations or dialogues. But those are very minor flaws, I wouldnt be surprised if this one rises in value if more collecters snag up last copies.

It's ok, Tektoro. Now the healing can begin. With these:
Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare
Blue Stinger
Carrier
D2
Dino Crisis
Illbleed
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 3
Resident Evil: Code Veronica
I've beaten most of these, and played at least some of all. While not all of them are excellent (Carrier is an obvious Resident Evil ripoff and a bit bland), I'd say they are still solid games and happily recommend them to you. And if you can read Japanese, you might also consider looking up the Japan-only survival horror game Nanatsu no Hikan: Senritsu no Bishou.
But avoid Evil Dead: Hail to the King.

I always saw it as a Deep Fear rip-off...
Then again, Deep Fear is a RE rip-off. So I guess you're right too...

I think I got past the second boss before getting stuck. I'm not sure because it's been years but I do remember fighting some bosses.
Also I remember not liking the 3D boss fights at all. That was my biggest beef with it.

I dunno i always like Carrier no its not perfect has its moments. Some of the backtracking can be a PITA i bought the game when it first came out. I think its worthy of a play. Currently im playing Sturmwind and ordered a mint copy of Starlancer never played this one yet.
Curtsy when you walk by that Dreamcast

Exactly. Carrier isn't excellent, but it's still an enjoyable game, and infinitely better than The Ring: Terror's Realm. I liked it when I played it, and I appreciated the few ideas it added to the formula, such as targeted fire, a taser pistol, and the scope, which could spot infections in people but was also useful for looking around corners in a first person view. I got a kick out of using it to look down corridors that the fixed camera angles kept me from being able to see.
Re: How is your Dreamcast gaming going on?
I have problem with games that are around the 70% rating , or sometimes 80% . The reason is a lot of them have frustrating control sometimes , or have frustrating parts . I know Shenmue is highly regarded here , but in Shenmue 2 (spoiler warning) the building scene were you have to pass the planks was frustrating as hell using QTEs. It really gets frustrating when it says " ->" and you DO press right, and you still die and have to do the whole thing all over again. Having no "load last save" option didn't help either. Now i have this thing where I pick games that am pretty sure are done well , I really cant handle control frustation.
Any one know why they made Shenmue 2 when Shenmue 1 lost huge amounts of money?

We all know we've played some pleasantly surprising games that weren't rated too highly, but if you can find a handful of review sites you trust I do think a collective journalistic opinion does matter. As long as you make sure you're taking advice from actual journalists and not industry shills.

Obviously game ratings are subjective, but for me that 70-80% range starts getting into real tangible flaws. Doesn't mean I won't like the game but I will examine further because certain flaws I just can't handle and some I can. For instance I played Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver on the DC and while the camera made me want to strangle a kitten, I loved the game otherwise. On the other hand I love everything about Dead Rising 1 & 2 except for the shitty save system, which breaks the game for me personally.
As far as Shenmue, others would know better than I but I think there might have been some wishful thinking that, even though the first game didn't make money, that word was getting around and people would realize it's quality by the time the sequel came out. I dunno though.

Should I invest in the Dreamcast ports of some of these like RE & Dino Crisis?
