Dragon's Crown
Re: Dragon's Crown
It looks amazing on my big screen. The combat is nice and fluid, showing that they could continue with the improvements they had made between Odin Sphere and Muramasa. Each of the characters has enough interesting moves that they can do so it isn't just a boring punch fest like so many beat-em-ups can become.

A podcast I listened to today said that the game has a lot of very subtle (unlike the obvious, pandering way a lot of games do it today) references to a lot of interesting pop culture things. People have found references to Disney, Classical art, Arrested Development, Community, and various other things. Somebody did a bang up job on this game's localization. Then there's of course the obvious game references which most of us will likely pick up on like the Golden Axe influenced rideable animals.
Yeah, at first I didn't like the combat because it has a different feel to a lot of beat 'em ups, but it's great once you get used to it. The character variety is really nice, but I also love the level variety. It surprises you in interesting ways. My party got its ass kicked in one level because I was carelessly knocking over barrels of oil and setting them on fire with the fire breathing animal I was on. I literally watched one of my AI characters burn to death as her HP drained to nothing. I love how in other stage I'm wondering how many of these stupid giant wasps I have to fight, only to discover that the next screen over has a hive spawning then, then came the challenge of actually hitting that thing that was so high up on the screen.

Re: Dragon's Crown
Moments that make me love this game:
We enter a dark cave. A bunch of ghosts appear. I freak out because they can't be harmed by conventional attacks. I dash across the screen, running past them. I find a torch on the ground. I immediately pick it up and start using it to light the ghosts on fire. One of my AI companions, an elf, stands behind me and channels her elemental magic through my torch to launch a volley of fireballs at the remaining ghosts
Fucking awesome!
I'm then notified by the game that my score has gotten high enough that I've been granted something called a life point, that will resurrect me if I'm killed. Sweet! And apparently EVERYONE in my party gets it!
EDIT: Turns out a life point is just a 1up basically LOL

Re: Dragon's Crown
My party and I just won an epic boss battle against a group of pirates after I attacked one of them and stole a magic lamp from him, then used it to summon a genie to wipe them all out! The narrator warned me, don't let them get the lamp back from you!
This game is awesome!

Wow, B paths make the game so awesome. You get the ability to randomly travel between dungeons, and after each one you can choose to carry on to the next dungeon with bonuses (double xp, double gold, better drops, etc). I could seriously do this for its own sake for hours. It really makes the grinding much less noticeable, as instead of just repeating the same tasks and areas over and over you're actually snowballing your rewards while working on increasingly limited resources. Such a cool system.
Some of this stuff is ridiculous. I had a Dwarf randomly drop into my party and say "I had something for this"
. There's also one boss in particular on the B paths that I'm sure everyone will find amusing.

I will be playing this this weekend, but what exactly does the "storyteller voice pack" add to the game?

Basically every playable character's voice actor did a voice-over using the narrator's script, so you can hear the story through the voice of whatever character you like.

Thanks.
Next question: Which is the better/more entertaining way to play: with or without the voice pack? I'm guessing the narrator.
