Here's my table/desk. Going to either be a PS4, Xbox One, or mini gaming PC joining the party soon enough.

I had a solid-core pine door on cutting horses for a while. The amount of room was insane. At one point it was my primary PC, PS3, 360, two laptops, two tablets, and there was still room at the end for report writing and non-tech uses.

It's a very economical way to get a lot of space. Especially if you're also refurbishing consoles/cartridges or modding a PC case.

That is a nice clean setup, fellow mac-er, Love the wallpaper. What monitor are you using? I once got a Samsung monitor for my macbook, it was so bad I ended selling it. I never got a monitor buying phobia now.

What is that wallpaper? are you running mac mini?

It probably is, but I think I may just wait and see what the Steam Machine options are next year. It would give me the compact but modular gaming PC I desire at a potentially decent price. I don't really expect Valve to sell at loss, but maybe they'll sell at cost.

Best way to do it, I think. Seems to be easier on the eyes.

AOC I2757FH link

There are a few other monitors that use the same panel from what I have read. It's nice. 1080p may be a little low res for a 27" monitor, but it is perfect for my consoles and fine for computer use as well. The input lag is soooo much less than my TV was. I believe the reviews I read put it at about 5ms. Pretty nice for IPS.

Wallpaper is some art of Kagamine Rin (Vocaloid) that I found online. Couldn't really tell you who the original artist is. Computer is a 2012 13" MacBook Pro w/ retina display. Great laptop but not exactly a powerhouse for games.

Wow, I didn't recognize Rin right away. Unusual illustration, but very pretty.

This is the first I've heard of ambient behind-the-monitor lighting. How is that done?

I am not sure what the difference between IPS or other LCD monitor forms, but all I know is IPS is the best and most expensive... am I right?
Nice monitor none the less
I have purchasing phobia, I only buy recognisable brand names like Sony and Samsung. To be honest with you, I have so much of a phobia that I will not buy LG, Toshiba, or Philips .

I never noticed this input latency, I do not even know what it is, or even when people argue that a game will only do 40FPS or 60FPS , how can you count the frames per second with your eyes?

IPS is better for viewing angle (usually), and can reproduce a wider range of colors without dithering. On the flip side, the response time (ghosting) and latency have historically been worse than what TN panels offer, and the cost is higher.

Details on the different technologies

In theory, OLED displays will get better/cheaper and replace them both, but that's still down the line.

Input latency is the lag between when the monitor gets a signal and when it displays it. Having a lot of processing done to the image tends to make it worse. Usually only a big deal in very timing sensitive games like rhythm or fighting.

FPS there's a definite "feel" to different ranges. This page has a little Flash animation that might help illustrate.
