Sega Genesis. So many great games that aren't only from main franchises. You get a little bit of everything. Plus the model 1 has a headphone jack. Blast out great left/right directional sound without waking up anyone.

Let's also not forget that all models of the Genesis are not created equal or even close. And s-video cabablities on the SNESarnold_the_bartender wrote:Sega Genesis. Model 1 FTW! Model two is small and just lacking....I am probably going to CL mine soon or something to get rid of it. I dislike it. :/

Different models are minor problem especially if you're a collector. Also, you forgot about RGB>S-Video. Genesis has RGB capabilities.pepharytheworm wrote:Let's also not forget that all models of the Genesis are not created equal or even close. And s-video cabablities on the SNES
Re: Sega Genesis vs. SNES!?
IIRC, It outputs RGB but then puts it inso S-Video and RF and such, which is great for modding ease. Thats definitely awesome.arnold_the_bartender wrote:Different models are minor problem especially if you're a collector. Also, you forgot about RGB>S-Video. Having different quality sound and visuals depending on which Genesis model you get is not a minor problem at all, even if you get the model 1 HD logo model it can still be a bad one depending on if it has a short board or not.arnold_the_bartender wrote:Different models are minor problem especially if you're a collector. Yellowing snes may look terrible but is easy to fix with RetrObrite, no tech knowledge necessary.
Oxy Clean, Hydrogen Peroxide, and water is all you need. Cheaper to clean an SNES than buy another model Genesis.
Also on the note of RGB, being in the USA its not cheap to get convertor to play on my TV. A lot cheaper to get an S-video cable for the SNES.

Hmm, well I never had to buy anymore Genesii to replace one. They've been lasting. The only real bad model 1 would be the VA7. I got my converter for only 45 bucks.

It's dubious how big of an advantage RGB would be when the graphics are inferior to begin with

Re: Sega Genesis vs. SNES!?
This is not a lasting issue. My model 2 has lasted since '93. Put it this way I had no idea that my model 2 had worse audio and visuals than other models when I got it new in '93. I thought Genesis sound and visuals were worse than they actually are and judged it accordingly. Now that I know the difference its not as bad as I thought.arnold_the_bartender wrote:Hmm, well I never had to buy anymore Genesii to replace one. They've been lasting. Also if you know a place to get a convertor and sega genesis rgb cable for less than $50, I might get one.

Re: Sega Genesis vs. SNES!?
I got it off of ebay from this one guy but I can't seem to find a listing for it now but he did have a bunch of them for sale. I noticed that garbagejuicer has the same one as me and has a pic of it in this thread: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 55&start=0pepharytheworm wrote:Also if you know a place to get a convertor and sega genesis rgb cable for less than $50, I might get one.
Edit: Almost forgot about the scart cables.

I got my model 2 cable from the seller of those links (pcenginesales).
