What "Great" game did you end up hating?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

As for the biggest franchise I hated... Halo.. I grew up on unreal and quake for the PC and I never got how Halo got so popular... All it is to me is a handicapped game that caters to console FPS players.. Unreal is much more fast paced with way more variety, but it does suck on consoles...

Ikaruga and Radian Silvergun.

I love shooters. I can play Cave shmups all day. but Ikaruga and RSG just bore me shitless. I'm not anti-Treasure either. I love their other games (and co-developed games - Gradius V is brilliant!).

I shudder each time Ikaruga makes #1 in a "Best Shmups Evar!" list on some commercial blog.

If anything, it was a "Shooting Fish In A Barrel" simulator. Leon is armed to the f'en teeth. I had absolutely nothing to be afraid of. Every time I did get killed, it felt more like I made a stupid mistake rather than feeling like I had been defeated.
I can see why you'd make that criticism - you're never truly in danger of running out of ammo whereas in Resident Evil 1 bullets are like gold dust. The setting is still creepy as hell though. There were many times in my most recent playthrough where I had to invite someone else into the room for moral support! I just can't work out if I'm too much of a pussy for the earlier Resident Evil games or if I just can't comprehend the controls - I think it's a bit of both.

If I had to make a guess, I'd say it's because their profit margins are a lot higher and their overhead is a lot lower as a publisher/developer than they would be as a console manufacturer. Unless you're Nintendo, making a console is often a losing proposition, but as a developer and publisher they can profit even on a console that drags its manufacturer down.
Systems: TI-99/4a, Commodore Vic-20, Atari 2600, NES, SMS, GB, Neo Geo MVS (Big Red 4-slot), Genesis, SNES, 3DO, PS1, N64, DC, PS2, GBA, GCN, NDSi, Wii

Also, I'm pretty sure that Nintendo is the only publisher/developer (with the possible exception of EA) who has made a lot of money from software with the Wii.

1) You just answered your own question (because the make money from EVERY CONSOLE)

2) For the same reason Sega don't make consoles any more.

See, I was going to put Halo down as one I hate, but that would be shooting fish in a barrel and the thread title is 'What "Great" game did you end up hating?' Halo is popular, but I don't see it as being anything more then mediocre.
