Re: Sony removing OtherOS feature in 3.21 PS3 update
The post about the wii, i dont agree with. I find quite a few fun games available. Of course some of them were gamecube with "new play control". I just ordered Geometry wars, and im enjoying Nights at the moment. I still have to try Pikmin, sealed yet. Granted they didnt recently come out, but I see a lot of good games on the Wii.
Im done complaining about Sony, im moving on. Im hoping they get last place in the console wars and I hope the move fails!
Of course I vowed to buy only used games, and im going to stick to that. No sony tvs, headphones, or whatever. I also hope for a class action lawsuit.
Okay im done, moving on..

Meh, it's just a clone of existing services that have been on the PC for years. Yeah, Zerogame was cool, but wholly irrelevant and worthless all the same.Niode wrote:Zerogame Project is justification on it's own for Linux on PS3.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:True, but aside from that the rest of my point gets across.Niode wrote:

Like I said before, it is cool, but ultimately it wasn't anything we'd actually miss in the long run.

Re: Sony removing OtherOS feature in 3.21 PS3 update
Sure, you could easily play emulators with a computer and display it on your big screen HDTV but that's not the point. It's sickening how Sony will get away with this but that's life.
Re: Sony removing OtherOS feature in 3.21 PS3 update
So, Sony removed OtherOS to combat piracy, and you're saying a huge justification for OtherOS is to play ROMs?Niode wrote: Zerogame Project is justification on it's own for Linux on PS3.
Am I the only one who sees the irony in this?
I used YDL a lot while I was in college. I tried a lot of things out on it, but here's the only stuff I found useful:
1) Torrents. (Ironically, mostly torrents of PS2 games.)
2) Emulation. (Play tons of games that I didn't have the right to play.)
3) Firefox. (Mostly to find torrents and ROMs.)
The only legal advantage was Firefox, and if I wanted to look something up real quick, it was a lot quicker to just use the GameOS browser than wait for YDL to load up so I could search what I wanted in Firefox. If they could ever update the GameOS browser to be as good as Firefox, then there's really no issue.
Sure, it was nice having an emu-rig... but I bought an original Xbox off somebody for $25.
I really do wish the 'sploit wasn't found until after the PS3 was a viable console. Then Sony just wouldn't have given a fuck. I can understand feeling pissed about this, but I just seriously fail to see what was lost to this that can't be done with other common, low-cost tools.
Re: Sony removing OtherOS feature in 3.21 PS3 update
Ugh.... What part of 'removing features that we paid for, regardless of what they are or how many people use them, is wrong' do you guys not understand?
Even though I don't really want to justify my use of emulators/roms to you, 7k. The games I most played on Zerogame Project? Minish Cap (I own this for GBA), Metroid Fusion (Again, Own this on GBA) and Link's Awakening (AGAIN I OWN THIS ON GB).

I don't think you need to justify emulators to The7k, he's quite an emulator user himself (he even says so in that post.)
We all understand, certainly, and I can guarantee that most of us agree with you that Sony is being stupid and that this certainly is wrong on principle for them to do this.
The difference is that we don't feel we should inconvenience ourselves by depriving ourselves of using Sony's products as a way to get back at them. Aside from the fact that doing so wouldn't even be a blip on Sony's radar, we just want to play our games and try not to let antics like these rain on our parade.

Re: Sony removing OtherOS feature in 3.21 PS3 update
Well I honestly hoped that people would give more of a shit about their rights as a consumer instead of bending over and taking it from Sony. They'll just keep doing it if they know they can get away with it. If people are content to be shafted by Sony then that's your problem. I stand up for my rights and I don't take shit from any company. After working several years in customer support you learn the tricks these companies love to use to keep you complacent. It's always bait and switch tactics with these companies.
Take a well known ISP in this country, they trained us to just give a customer free month of ISP if they were having troubles. Just to placate them into staying with us, even when we had defaulted on the contract on our (the companies) side. It doesn't solve anything.
