Not sure. I know the nomad works off the video out it is equipped with. It would have to be done differently with a Game Gear

You would need to make a decoder first...

Basically I need to know if the screen is more or less the same size as the one in the Game Gear. Never seen a real Nomad before, so I have no idea if it's the same size as a GG screen. If yes, then it should work. I think...

I just compared my GG with my Nomad. They seem to be the same size within a couple millimeters, so you should be good in that regard. Aside from the video input, the biggest thing I'd worry about is the screen thickness.

Good to know. Thanks...

Screen thickness shouldn't be a problem since you won't need the room for the CFL tube anymore...

Nomad actually uses a 3.25" screen and the replacement is a 3.5" so a tiny bit is cut off on the edges.

Not easily. A Gamegear needs a complicated video circuit. It is VERY hard to make one and get it to fit in there with a new screen.

Jmustang1968 wrote:Well, I bought 1 nomad screen from the linked ebay seller and it worked well.

I then bought 2 more and they were slightly different. It seems they wont display 240p and try to instead display 480i. This causes the screens to be in black & white and with vertical lines :(

I am going to try some screens from amazon now... Seems to be hit or miss with these.
Hi new here.. a friend gave me a Nomad with the screen fractured as seen:

But everything else worked great buttons, sound, a/v out.. (though it does smell like mold/smoke, but i've been soaking the plastic shell in soapy water and it smells clean now except for the rubber peices which dont seem to release that smell)..

anyways It seems to me since it was free its PERFECT for a screen upgrade.. I ripped the old screen out (tore off the ribbon cable) and Now i'm interested to get a replacement screen..

Please keep me informed on your amazon purchases.. I'm asuming you got the one that is for sale for 17.78 ?

I dont want to get one that will be too big, or not fit right, i've found various ones on deal extreme, and a few on ebay which dont even have a case (just the lcd, driver board and cables) And i've just been unsure as to what to use, I wish there was someone who has a rundown on all of these screens, and you're the closest one there is...

Question i've been wondering, is it better to use these 960x468 screens rather than going for one that is 320x240 ? It seems to me with the 320x240 youd have bigger pixels, but they would be no resizing unlike the 960x468 screens which i believe are doubling the pixels? Also It would be nice to know which screens do not have AV1 / AV2 displayed on the top right of the screen when you turn it on.. as I'd rather have a very clean experience if possible...

and lastly, i've noticed SOME modded systems seem to have a lag when turned on before the screen pops on, but after viewing a few youtubes i've seen others who do not have this lag (the screen pops right on when a normal non modded systems screen would come on, i've seen side by side power ons)...

so any info you can donate to those of us still searching for a screen to do this mod is greatly appreciated!

You definitely want the 240p monitors. The 480 monitors can display in B&W and with vertical lines in the image. That is the issue I had with my previous 2 monitors. I just received an amazon lcd, but I havent had a chance to test it yet. This one seems a bit different than the last 2 , so I am a bit optimistic.

You will also need a new screen cover it looks like. They can be found on ebay for about $5.

As long as you get the 3.5" screen you should be good to go on size.

Hey thanks for the reply!

ACtually the plastic screen cover is not cracked at all, it does have expected scuffs and light scratches (nothing deep) for its age, but I may ultimately pick up a replacement if the mod goes well!

So when you say 240p does that mean a screen quoted as 320x240 is 240p and will work the best? The one on amazon has the specs of 960x468.. I'll eagerly await your findings on the amazon one if its the same one for 17 bucks... That would be cheaper than the ones that 27+ from deal extreme...

Mainly this one on ebay claims 320x240 (is this link okay to post?)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-5-inch-TFT-LC ... 3a7ae11f06

My only concern is would the driver board fit okay with the size of the screen, its not too expensive..

I'm curious if there's much difference in brightness or contrast or quality between these screens that merit the extra 10-20 (or in the case of that deal extreme back up one that is 50 bucks, additional 30 dollarS) for their quality or not.

The problem s that the screens are made in Hong Kong / China. You will buy a screen from a seller, two weeks later the screen will be made with a different Lcd, or controller board. So when recommending a screen it doesn't matter what you recommend. Twp weeks later the seller wil be selling something that is now different.

Heck I have bough 4 screens from a seller in one batch and had 2 different lcd's even though the casing was identical.
