I just started watching The Wire. Halfway through the first season. Great show.

Just wish it had better music. Though the show doesn't use any music. Just the intro and credits. But still. It could use something better than some old jazz.

I just finished it, now I have to find a new show to watch while XP'ing in FFXI.

Intro changes to a different version of the same song each season.

The Wire is so good.

Just finished Season 1 of "Vikings". Was really solid, the lead often looks like Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) and it's almost distracting the first couple shows. Season 2 is for $$$ on prime right now, so off to something else. Probably "The League".

Before Vikings we watched Season 3 of Sherlock (again, masterful, though getting beyond believable, which is ok).

And before that was season 1 of Boardwalk Empire.

In a real solid flow of good tv lately.

Glad to see some love for The Wire. Best show ever, no contest, nothing comes close.

I have been watching the past season of Boardwalk Empire (Season 4) off and on over the past week - I had watched Seasons 1-3 when they were current but missed this season when it aired last year so I am trying to get caught up before the new season gets going tomorrow. I have two episodes left, and I must say that the show continues to impress almost every episode. I'd probably put it in the pantheon of "5 Best HBO Dramas" behind The Wire, The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, and Deadwood. That puts it pretty high in the running as one of the best TV dramas ever, as well.

That said, barring a really stellar final year and if True Detective continues to be near as good as it was in its first season, Boardwalk will likely get bumped to #6 before long.

Deadwood was excellent the first time around. The second time around it was almost unwatchable. All the charm disappears, the language, which seemed accurate and needed the first go round seems predicatable and over the top on the 2nd viewing. Definitely a show I wish i'd watched only once.

The only other show I recall losing so much appeal after a second viewing was Arrested Development.

Have you watched MI-5, Dave? It isn't as intense as the wire, but the acting is on par and the twists are both believable and unpredictable. In my top 5, for sure.

Hustle is also very good and would make a top 25 list, well, maybe top 35.

If you enjoy Idris Elba (Stringer Bell), or even if you don't, I recommend Luther, currently on Netflix. First show is dark and of course they are developing characters, so it seems a bit slow, but if you get through that, you'll thank me. It is British Crime/Drama at its best. After the last season i'd put it ahead of Sherlock.

Please show me one person that doesn't think Idris Elba is a badass.

There's billboards all over Durham for Idris Elba's new flick No Good Deed. Not sure exactly why, but thought it was interesting.

Speaking of True Detective, I hope they keep the vibes they had going. I'm not really a fan of cop shows in general, but True Detective was so immersed in the culture and idealism of the area they chose, and how all kinds of little touches to make it feel like something realistic, rather than idealized. Harrelson's character using snuff was a little bump to it for me, along with the rings in his jeans and such. And throwing Matthew's character to drink Lone Star really helps it feel in the environment, making it feel like a story that came from Louisiana rather than a cop story that happens to be there.

I hope they keep that going on in the next season.
