Fact: Duct Tape was not made nor intended to fix ducts, because it can't.

I can thank "wait wait, don't tell me" for that slice of knowledge.

@Actually, both can work. Duct tape is really what it is, yet Duck Tape is one brand that manufactures it.

well, it is possible you do mean Duck Tape when you say it, or even Duck Tape duct tape. I think the two have become a bit conflated...approaching "Coke" levels of synonymity

Right, like Kleenex. Besides, the way it sounds in speech is pretty hard to tell apart. Unless that person specifically enunciates the T at the end of "duct." But then you've got a "Cool WHip" thing going on.

Interestingly:

It was invented during construction of the Empire State building and was used heavily.

And it is totally "Duck Tape" since it has water resistance like a duck's feathers. It seems it became "Duct Tape", because a bunch of people used it on air ducts for decades even though they shouldn't have. Thankfully now it's officially banned from Air Duct use.

Yep, apparently it really is either or.

#tehmoarukno

And I actually have some UL/emission certified tape that can be used on ducts.

All this talk about duct tape not being for use on ducts is triggering because what you guys consider duct tape isn't duct tape. Duct tape is wrapped around a roll, not adhered to itself like regular tape, but with a thin piece of brown paper between. It is also extremely thin and almost reflective as tin foil.

I didn't know autism was a thing that could be triggered.
