12 years old. Me and my best buds Chris and John would go through the sewer system from Westerville, pop out in Columbus, and "Mall it" all day long. We'd skip school, make fake "sleep overs", and spend days at the mall. And this was pre-TMNT.

Sure, we smelled like ass coming out of the sewers, but it wasn't nothing a corn dog and an orange julius couldn't fix.

Well I live near the mall of America so it has ruined my opinion of malls, also probably the reason I do all my shopping online now too, but south point just seemed really small and always pretty dead compared to even our smaller mall here. I don't think I ever made it to south square and the only reason I knew of it was from Little Brother lyrics. Hell our small mall is at least 3 times bigger than south point. South peezy is just a 2 story hallway with some stores on both sides and some other random stores outside of it. Although I did hit up that urban outfitters for high tops and numbers of the girls working there pretty often, but besides that there just wasn't much there.

Full disclosure: I probably spent about $100 on the turtles in time at the movie theater.

Also thanks to Luke I'm craving an Orange Julius now. There is one downtown in the skyways but I can only find it on accident (when I'm lost, start to cry and scream that I need an adult) so I guess I've got a full day planned for Monday already.

For sure, Southpoint is small even compared to malls in neighboring cities (e.g. Raleigh, Burlington). But compared to like, Northgate and its multiple empty stores, it's kind of all there is left. I'm actually surprised University Mall over in Chapel Hill is still alive.

I rarely ever go to malls though, save for the theater at Northgate just because it's closer to me than Southpoint. Although I probably go to Wynnsong over near South Square just as often.

I really miss South Square Mall. I have a lot of memories from that place. It's where I got my copy of Silent Hill that I still have today. It's where I first played many fighting games from all kinds of series. It's where I had my first Orange Julius. I spent many a day over there when I would go stay with my dad every other weekend.

Maybe this'll help a little bit:
Orange Julius:
  • 6 oz Frozen Orange Juice Concentrate
  • 1 C Milk
  • 1 C Water
  • 1/4 C Sugar
  • 1 ts Vanilla Extract
  • 8-10 Ice Cubes
Put everything in a blender and blend until smooth. If your blender sucks, add the Ice Cubes one at a time as its blending.

I've made it multiple times with Minute Made, it tastes identical to Orange Julius at the mall.
