For better or worse, all modern language is essentially a bastardization of an earlier form of the language.
Language is a living thing which is why publications like the AP need to release new stylebooks yearly and the dictionary has to expand with new words, definitions and accepted spellings. What is proper or improper at any given time depends on what everyone agrees on and to make matters worse everyone doesn't agree on every little thing.
English has a lot of really stupid rules and idiosyncrasies sometimes for no reason other than because that's just the way it is. Spelling in our language is especially horrific. There are times and places where I can be forgiving. I don't hold myself to a perfect standard so I'm not going to hold everyone else to one.
However...
I have to ask, do some people use browsers from the early 1990's when they post on the net? While I don't expect people to be quickly penning flawless essays on forums some of them have to be looking at an entire page of red squiggly lines before deciding it's good enough.

I hate how the mobile version of this site highlights that you have edited a post. I frequently post, then notice a typo and go back to edit it afterwards, but I see a lot of my posts are edited more than other people's. I don't proof read before clicking submit.

That's what I'm saying, they're just being lazy. I am a HORRIBLE speller. You'd be surprised just how bad at times. Thank god for spell check. And some times that isn't even good enough. I'm not afraid to Google a word real quick for the definition to make sure I'm using the right word, or correct spelling if the word isn't in the spell checker's dictionary. Or some times even to hear the pronunciation to make sure I have the correct word.Gunstar Green wrote:However...

It shows that you edited and how many times only if some one else has posted after you. If you post, then have to edit real quick before some one else replies, no edit is shown.J T wrote:I hate how the mobile version of this site highlights that you have edited a post. I too frequently post then edit a typo out. Sometimes I wont catch a typo after proof reading it once, or sometimes I will only proof read a post for the first time after I've already submitted it. For example, if I went to type "can" but accidentally typed "cane" it wont show up with red lines as a misspelled word because it isn't. That's not the best example, but the first one I could think of.

Also, freaky mod powers let you edit without a trace to the plebes. It shows that you edited and how many times only if some one else has posted after you. If you post, then have to edit real quick before some one else replies, no edit is shown.

"God" should be capitalized, because you have used it as a proper name.Ziggy587 wrote: Thank god for spell check.
You need to put an apostrophe in "won't."Ziggy587 wrote: Sometimes I wont catch a typo after proof reading it once, or sometimes I will only proof read a post for the first time after I've already submitted it.
