When I listen to music on my PC/laptop speakers, streams and MP3s are fine. When I listen to music on a stereo, on headphones, or in my car, a CD trumps any lossy format by a mile.
I generally agree with this. I do however rip my cds to .flac and keep a digital library to access rather than swapping out cds at the house. The car on the other hand is usually a cd playing unless I'm listening to a morning or afternoon radio show.
Despite these efforts my wife will put the same music on from Pandora and listen to it in horrible quality. It doesn't bother her a bit. Sometimes she just plays it directly from the kindle hdx which has remarkably loud speakers for a tablet but still sounds roughly equivalent to an 80's walkman.
Pandora works juuuuust fine for me. I am many things, an audiophile is not one of them. Which is probably good, since I don't need more things to dump my money into.

It can be a pit for sure. It isn't a great hobby to be into unless you have deep pockets. Since I do not, I simply strive for something that pleases my ear. I wouldn't be considered an audiophile by any means. That said, it annoys me to listen to pandora on the stereo. I may be more inclined to settle if they allowed paid subscribers to get the higher quality stream on something other than a pc.

Yeah my pockets aren't exactly deep, and I'm hitting the bottom of them with my new-ish foray into arcade collecting in addition to home consoles.
I get what you're saying about something that's good to you. Many of my home consoles are modded for YPbPr because it's the best quality that I personally can see a difference at -- there are people who claim that RGB is "crisper" or "more vibrant" to them, but I personally can't see the difference btwn RGB and YPbPr so I mod my systems for the latter and rock with it. Saves me the hassle of also finding a PVM or an XRGB.
Just to/too/two is annoying? Not your/you're and there/their/they're? Or than/then? I find it all equally annoying. End hears the won know won nose: Affect and effect.
