Now I need to find something else to play...
What shmup are you playing now?

Good job. I'd probably be somewhere in the 30s or 40sDocHauser wrote:The tournament run by trap15 over on Shmups Forum has come to an end. I finished 5th!

I hope that won't be the only STGT over at shmups, looking over the games, that looked like a fun month. Maybe we should have taken off in July?

Very nice pickup.
Where I live there are no shops that keep old retro stuff, never mind old "quality" retro stuff!

Re: What shmup are you playing now?
After having it for a while, I finally got around to Super Nova (SNES). Three types of ships, that's OK. Neat graphics, fine. Typical Darius series gameplay? For the most part. But why did they have to go to a CHECKPOINT SYSTEM?! I think I'm gonna have to go to play Easy difficulty first. I'm also not too impressed with the tiny objects/enemies. Even the bosses don't look all huge and foreboding like they normally do in this series. I'll keep playing, but I might have to tone it down a bit

With my X-Arcade stick back in actions, time for better performance on other shmups!
Probably my best ever on 1944 The Loop Master -

Also tried a Nihon Bussan game called Armed Formation. One of the easier shmups they put out -

Re: What shmup are you playing now?
As well as Shienryu for SOTM I'm playing Curse and Elemental Master on Megadrive. And Darius II.
I recently got a Japanese MD console and am finally realising why Darius II has the reputation for difficulty that it has. On my modified multi-region console it definitely runs slower...

Re: What shmup are you playing now?
Curse was very close to getting a US release by INTV Corp (the company that bought out the Intellivision rights after Mattel Electronics folded) but INTV went bankrupt around 1990. I saw an LP of it the other day and it looks to be a bit of a mess but otherwise still interesting.Spyke wrote:As well as Shienryu for SOTM I'm playing Curse and Elemental Master on Megadrive. The only thing I remember about Darius II is the nonsensical text and speech like "I always wanted a thing called tuna sashimi"

Re: What shmup are you playing now?
Darius II is one of my all-time faves. I haven't beaten it yet but I'm close. The MD version is pretty good and smooth, but I'd like to get the Saturn version too one day, just to see the differences.
The music is quirky for sure and there's plenty of replay value in it.
Curse I've still to get into. Big sprites make the screen seem a bit cluttered and there are distractions caused by background scenery into which you can crash, and foreground objects that you can pass through (wtf?!?!?)
But it's enjoyable so far and I think will be a little bit challenging later on.

Re: What shmup are you playing now?
Played 1943 Kai on a 60-in-1 yesterday. Got to Stage 6. Had no energy left on the Stage 5 boss ship and made it. Close to 1.10 mil. Pretty good.
