I don't see how I can trash all modern games when I'm praising Infinite and DE:HR, two modern games. What I'm saying is that those two are better than any other FPS game released during the same time period
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

Well, you called nearly every game in an entire era trash, so saving face by praising two games isn't exactly saying much.

No...? I never got why people said Other M ruined Samus, Samus was never much of a character in the first place. Could have been Link in that space suit and no one would ever have guessed.
I always thought her stoicism spoke for itself.

Heres a few of my own.

-I dislike 99% of FPS games that came out in the last...7 years or so.
-I dont own one, but I think the WiiU looks fun.
-I generally pass on super-realistic games because they tend to not be as fun.
-I think its stupid to preorder a game to recieve a virtual item.
-I think N64/PS2 were pretty much the peak of home consoles as far as game fun-ness is concerned. I feel like I enjoy basically every game I play on those consoles, everything since then though, I find a lot of dissapointment in.

I'm more than willing to call most games made during the last decade trash because most games made at any point of history were trash.

Mario games are plenty fun (the 2D ones anyway) but Mario as a character is boring as hell. No personality, no dialogue, no backstory and no motivation aside from "save Princess Peach."
I realize this is because he comes from a much simpler era of gaming, but they keep making new games about him while he continues to be a shitty, shallow character. Also his voice is annoying and borderline racist.

Honestly a lot of the same things can be said about Link. The Zelda games are usually awesome but Link is generally little more than a creepy emotionless mute who brings nothing to the table besides simply being the "hero." It's even weirder than Mario because Zelda games have such lush engaging stories, although ironically featuring a protagonist that's under-developed as fuck. At least in Wind Waker he has a distinct personality and a decent range of facial expressions, so that's the exception.
This whole argument that a video game character needs to be a good character baffles me. How is a game any worse because it's character is less interesting. It sounds like you're watching the characters rather then playing as them. Personally I prefer minimal story and silent protagonists, anything that gets between me and the game world is not something I like.

And how can you know if they are overrated if you've never played them?
Ah, the old "how can you judge it if you haven't played it" argument. Yeah, that use to work back before Youtube, detailed video game reviews, and plot summaries on Wikipedia existed. It doesn't work anymore nowadays though.

I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

Watching videos and reading what someone else has to say about a game is in no way equivalent to actually playing a game for yourself.

If you could get the experience by watching and reading, there wouldn't be any need for video games at all.
