There's a really sharp divide between Persona 2 & 3. 2 and prior more closely resemble the original SMT games while 3 and later are from a more modern RPG sensibility (plus visual novel aspects).Sarge wrote:I still haven't finished a single Persona game. I have the most time in Innocent Sin, which is a very different beast.

Yup. And I figure the older ones will be the first I manage to get through. There's just something that doesn't quite click for me with the newer ones. Although I'd actually love one that combined the battles of the new ones with the game structure of the older ones.
I don't like random dungeons much at all, but to be honest, the dungeons in the older Persona games aren't very good, either.
The only game I've actually finished in the entire SMT series was Soul Hackers. And that's a good 'un.

Nocturne man, Nocturne. Old school gameplay, new school graphics. No visual novel fluff, no random dungeons. And a bonus Matador.

The resale store near me had a copy stuffed somewhere in the back ages ago. I must sniff out if it is still there. All of Exhumy Senpai's preechings have convinced me I must acquire it :IExhuminator wrote:Nocturne man, Nocturne. Old school gameplay, new school graphics. No visual novel fluff, no random dungeons. Someone did a really well done video explaining how an arbitrary code execution glitch in the Famicom version of Zelda can be used to skip directly to Zelda's room and end the game. If you have any interest in programming you'll love this video.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I basically have a hard-on for any Shin Megami Tensei game these days. And to think, it all started when I picked up SMT4 on a whim because a friend of mine in college kept going on and on about how amazing the series was (that friend, btw, never made it more than a quarter of the way through that game). Now I've beaten SMT4, Persona 3, Persona 4, and Tokyo Mirage Sessions with SMT4 Apocalypse and Persona 5 preordered as well as having Persona Q, SMT3, and one of the gazillions of PS2 spinoffs waiting patiently on my shelf.

I think Persona is among the weaker of the Megami Tensei subseries.
The old 8/16-bit games and Last Bible spin-offs are the best.

I'll put it this way... There are a ton of PS2 JRPGs. And Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne is my absolute favorite. It is in my opinion, the greatest JRPG on the PS2. And of its generation. Now sure, I haven't played every 6th gen JRPG. But I would be absolutely flabbergasted if any other one could best SMT: Nocturne for my tastes. The game is a work of art. It blew me away. Why some people do not enjoy it I simply cannot understand.PartridgeSenpai wrote:All of Exhumy Senpai's preechings have convinced me I must acquire it :I

True Demon is a real accomplishment. It felt like a culmination of a plan I put into motion into building my Demi-Fiend into a killing machine; he was the only one doing damage on my team. I didn't have the patience to get the special Girimehkala that has Pierce.Exhuminator wrote:I got Rejection -> FreedomMrPopo wrote:Which ending did you go for?
The next time I play through it, I'm going for True Demon.
One word of advice for True Demon; don't bother recruiting Dante. Since he's permanently stuck in your party and his skillset is useless for the true final boss he ends up being dead weight that you could fill with another demon for any other purpose.
