Memento was a really awesome movie. Watched it last night.

I just watched it for the first time recently! I really enjoyed it. Great little twist at the end.

Finally sat down and watched Say Anything from start to finish. I have seen the last half or the first half several times before, but never the whole thing in one go. Despite the obvious 80sness of the fashion and technology, it is a fairly timeless story that is just solid through and through. Cameron Crowe did one helluva job for a first time director.

The Wind Rises was a letdown. It has all the hallmarks of a quality film but it just left me feeling a bit bored. I didn't even feel like it was that controversial, just very flat in both animation and character. It's a shame this is supposed to be Hayao Miyazaki's final film.

Saw Godzilla earlier and was somewhat disappointed. Way to much focus on the actors and not enough on the monsters. Plus none of the actors really impressed me. Was expecting Bryan Cranston to be the lead but he didn't have much screen time and the way they presented him in the trailer was total BS . Same goes for the monsters every time a good fight/rampage sequence was about to break out they cut away to other characters leaving the fight going on in the back ground. Best example was a scene in which a big face off is about to happen and... bam cut to a kid watching a news report about the aftermath.

My Thoughts on the New Godzilla

I liked the new look and they did a great job of animating him. However it felt really silly that he just ignored the military for a good portion of the film. The most ridiculous thing was the aircraft carrier escort across the pacific . I can understand that they are following him but seriously the boats are shown pretty much right on top of him on both sides right at his shoulders and he just ignores them completely. Godzilla almost seemed tame which was kind of stupid seeing as Humans had only been hostile towards him in the past repeatedly nuking him . The ending with everyone cheering Godzilla on while he walked out of the city was hilarious he is just as responsible as the other monsters for destroying huge chunks of multiple cities and his kill count when it comes to humans easily exceeds 1000 . Had a little chuckle when I heard parents telling their kids "see Godzilla was a good guy" in the hallway after the movie.

Watched Godzilla 2014. I didn't think it was a mind blowing experience, but I did feel that it was satisfying. It was certainly better than the 1998 disaster and Legendary is more than welcome to continue making Godzilla movies. Godzilla's design was great, and I felt that the movie had a good balance overall. Although I would have liked a little more Kaiju Fight, most of Toho's films also focus mainly on the humans only to end in an epic battle (sometimes with a mini battle in-between). The first part of the story really drew me in, but I sort of started losing interest towards the end.

I'm so happy that they paid homage to the original by naming the Dr. Serizawa, however I'm slightly disappointed in that this IS the Godzilla from 1954. Almost all other Godzilla movies keep the original movie in the canon by acknowledging Serizawa's sacrifice with the Oxygen Destroyer. I understand why they couldn't use this, as something like that would draw too much attention to Godzilla, but it still puts me off a little. The Godzilla we have grown to love is NOT the Godzilla from 1954.

The designs of both Godzilla and the M.U.T.O were fantastic. My only gripe is the Godzilla stump feet. They look pretty silly and I would have preferred the Heisei feet, but overall his design was fantastic. The muto make me think Orga and the Kaiju from Cloverfield got it on and had a winged baby. I also found it funny how Godzilla disposed of one of the muto in a similar fashion to how he destroyed Orga.

Visually, I think the movie was stunning. It's hard to believe that this was the director's first major film. The fights were gorgeous and the close ups of the Kaiju fight were spot on.
