Mamma mia, what's next, trying to ban Speedy Gonzales?

I think I already said this but I think Psychonauts would have been far better as a movie. Everything good about the game is not in any way related to the gameplay!

I couldn't care less about story, not only do I not care about it I'd rather it just not be there in the first place (unless it's intertwined with the gameplay in an interesting way) Nothing bothers me more than some game getting lots of attention for its story. I'd rather have a silent protagonist or a customizable character then one who is fully fleshed out with a well thought out personality that I have no input in whatsoever. Especially since video games usually have terrible stories anyway and when they're good they're usually only passable as a story alone. I think a little context is a good thing but not a whole linear narrative that's told to you rather then with you.

No...? I never got why people said Other M ruined Samus, Samus was never much of a character in the first place. Could have been Link in that space suit and no one would ever have guessed.

Never played Other M (lol wii) but all I know is that it made Samus into an apparently whiny pain in the ass who couldn't use missiles until her CO said "go for it".

Even though she was already carrying them.

Yeah, that's basically the big problem with the game. Everyone jumps on Team Ninja for that, calling them out as being sexist and stuff, but it was actually Nintendo themselves who wrote the story for that game.

Also that damn switching to first person just to fire missiles thing is stupid as all hell.

I don't hate Metroid: Other M. I thought it was a pretty good game.

But yeah, that was annoying. It was jarring, it would completely pull you out of the gameplay.

Yeah, I'm not sure why you had to switch to first person. It didn't handle very well.

Other M is ok, it kinda reminded me of the E-102 Stages in Sonic Adventure, which isn't a good thing. It could be really mindless at times.

Uncle Jenkins wrote:Mario games are plenty fun (the 2D ones anyway) but Mario as a character is boring as hell. No personality, no dialogue, no backstory and no motivation aside from "save Princess Peach."

There's a reason that Mario was originally called Jumpman. Mario isn't intended to be a character at all. He's just an avatar for the player to control in the game like the paddle from Pong. Expecting Mario to be a well-developed three dimensional character just seems rather silly to me. You might as well expect the L Block to be a well developed character.

Probably not an unpopular opinion here, but I feel that way about most games these days.

Mario's whole lack of a distinct personality and no speech is handled pretty damn well in the RPGs, I think.
