Wii-U thoughts so far
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
The Wonderful 101 is one I'll be picking up. Not first party. And probably not a system seller. Still, it looks like a lot of fun. I could see Nintendo finishing 3rd this gen and still make a good profit. But at this point who knows? They could turn it around big time.
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
Yup, they absolutely could. I know my posts seem gloomy and doomy, but I am rooting for Nintendo as I like a lot of what they bring to the gaming landscape. I'll buy a Wii U eventually, the question for me is whether I want to wait until it starts getting clearanced out or if I want to invest now in a console that seems to be struggling more and more.ZenErik wrote:The Wonderful 101 is one I'll be picking up. That said, people like me and people on this site are not the average game consumer, and so I am not optimistic that Nintendo is doing enough to appeal to a larger demographic in a way that will make them want to buy a Wii U (and thus make it a worthwhile system for any company - including Nintendo - to publish to). Numbers continue to bear this out...
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
The Wii U and Vita are practically like brothers at this point. If there's one key difference it's that Nintendo will at least do everything the can to support their system while Sony doesn't really seem to care at this point.
That being said, I've got to say there's a lot more games I'd like to purchase on these two systems than there is on my PS4 wish list at the moment. Maybe I'm just weird, idk.
If, by this holiday the Wii U doesn't pick up a decent amount of momentum then I'd be willing to say it's "dead", at least in the eyes of the mainstream. We're not there yet though.

A pre-ordered the PS4, but my 'must have' launch game list is at zero.CavZee wrote:The Wii U and Vita are practically like brothers at this point. Will probably try FFXIV and FFXV. MAYBE KH3. And maybe Diablo 3, which I've already played on PC. Watch Dogs is a maybe as well. But all those Square Enix games won't be out until next year or 5 years from now.
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
Only games that even exist so far for the PS4 that have my interest are MGS5, The Evil Within, Watch Dogs I guess, and maybe FFXV (but Final Fantasy has been disappointing me for years).ZenErik wrote:A pre-ordered the PS4, but my 'must have' launch game list is at zero.CavZee wrote:The Wii U and Vita are practically like brothers at this point. Thus, I'll be waiting it for a while since there's a lot games coming this fall for systems I already own.

Ah yea. MGS5 does look pretty good. And The Evil Within is on my radar. It's got to be better than RE5 and 6. Right? I hope so.CavZee wrote: Only games that even exist so far for the PS4 that have my interest are MGS5, The Evil Within, Watch Dogs I guess, and maybe FFXV (but Final Fantasy has been disappointing me for years).

I agree on FF being disappointing. Haven't been a huge fan since FFIX. But I keep hoping that I'll fall in love with the series again. FFXIV is interesting because I wouldn't mind trying another MMO. The more I hear about FFXV the less hyped up I get. But the initial E3 trailer looked amazing.
I am more partial to Sony consoles than Nintendo. But at current the WiiU probably does have an equal amount or more games that I am looking forward to.
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
Some one here told me to see DS sales and compare them to Wii U because DS started very slow too. According to Wikipedia , the DS sold 5.2 million in its first 3 months , the Wii U sold 3.6-4m in its first 8 months . There is also something fishy about the numbers. The DS reached 26m after 2 years on the market by Sept. 06 , by the same date next year('07) they DOUBLED that number and again by '08 they DOUBLED the total sales up until '07 ... Can you imagine Microsoft announcing sales of 60m 360 units, and next E3 they announce they sold 120m?!
Both Saturn and Dreamcast were considered a failure when both reached 10m aproximate , so we all know that Wii U has to surpass that number to be in the safe zone. If the Wii U turns out a lemon commercially , if I was Nintendo I would:
1)Play it slow and easy and try to suck out as much money as they can out of the Wii U
2)Live off the cash reserve made from the Wii last gen.
3)Concentrate on the hand-held market this generation
4)Take an initiative to launch a new image of Nintendo for the next couple of decades
Do 1 of the following 3 things:
-Pull my strength and compete head to head with Sony+Microsoft
-Merge with Sega and work together to release the Dreamcast 2
-Merge into Sony
I know a lot of people will go crazy because of what I said commercial corporations have to learn how to let go of their ego. Many companies did this before to survive like Apple adopted Intel processors , Puffin just merged with Random House, ... adapt or die .
What would you do if you were CEO of Nintendo and the Wii U failed commercially? I hope you do not say released another Mario Bros game.
@Reprise
I am not talking to you , I am talking to Octopod who said "Has Nintendo ever done well in the UK?"

I don't think I understand what your first suggestion is trying to say.

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
no need to laugh, its my opinion and I bet if Nintendo would do any of the things I listed above it would shake the videogame industry and would get everyone excited. If you are laughing because you think that will never happen to Nintendo..well neither do I , but I was thinking of a situation of what I will do IF the Wii U fails commercially . It could turn out on top this generation and make the biggest profit. (I still think its smart to merge with Sega either way)ZenErik wrote:RCBH928 wrote: Do 1 of the following 3 things:

I don't know if you realised this or not but Nintendo is not really competing with Sony and Microsoft. It is very clear that the crowd that are going crazy over Call of Duties , GTAs, Tomb Raiders are not the same crowd playing Mario Bros. , Kirby , and Donkey Kong (I know overlaps exist) . Last generation no one was thinking should I get ps3 or the Wii , but should I get a ps3 OR a 360 , after that decision is made they think "is it worthwhile to get a Wii even though I do have a ps3 ". It is very different. There was this theory where why Nintendo was selling so many Wii's because Nintendo was smart enough not to COMPETE directly on the "hardcore gamers" market but to expand the market to NON gamers creating a market called the "casual market" . In fact , I do not remember people differentiating between consoles as casual or hardcore before this generation. I know this because I have been following daily news of this generation since day 1.
In the upcoming generation, it is very clear that Nintendo is not abandoning that approach as it is clearly mentioned by its console name the WII U. Its the same games set for the Wii crowd, Mario Bros, Mario kart, Super Smash , Wario , Wii U party , The Miis, Donkey Kong... all of these are sequels to the Wii games. When i said head to head with Microsoft and Sony, I do not see Nintendo exclusives that are going to compete against :
PS4:Killzone , Infamous, GT, Drive Club, FF15, Kingdom Hearts 3, Deep Down
X1: Ryse , Quantum Break , Forza, Dead Rising 3, Killer Instinct, Halo 5, Titan Fall,
