I forgot how painfully slow rewinding a tape is, and having one would speed up the process whenever I do decide to watch any of the other 40 or so titles I have(and really just don't want to get the dvd/digital version for quite awhile since I've seen those occasionally and don't see the handrawn stuff I used to see in movies with those since they're "remastered"). I don't know why but "remaster"ing always makes me cringe because I can imagine the edits they've probably done to it now that I'm older :?
A rewinder is less about speed, and more about minimizing wear and tear on the VCR (and possibly the tape).

Remastering is usually a good thing. It doesn't automatically imply a new edit of the film. It just means they went back to the source material to create a new "master" copy. Usually, an objectively better one. For a film source, for instance, a modern remaster would mean scanning each frame of the film in at high resolution and cleaning up dust, restoring color (since film fades over time), and so on.
A Blu-ray done without an HD master available won't look that good, or at least, as good as it could.

Not to say that the end result is always better. Sometimes things are too filtered, color is off, whatever. More often though, it's an essential part of having classic movies available and looking good.

I seem to use my PS3 lately more for Netflix and HBO Go than gaming lately.

Of course, my PS3 is on CFW and I am unwilling to give up that ability, so days like today kinda suck  Ah well, back to using the Chromecast for a couple weeks. I should probably use that more anyway, reduce usage on the PS3. And other than a slight annoyance going from 1 episode of a tv show on Netflix to the next, there's really no downside to the Chromecast.

Well from all I've seen of some remasters(especially of older disney movies) they seem to of removed some of the stuff that really made it seem like the film was hand-drawn at one point when going from vhs to dvd. I think I've even seen that in the one for jungle book(which is the movie I started earlier but haven't finished yet and will probably restart a tomorrow and finish).

Hey, I never new Racketboy's community had so many transgendered people! I mean this in a good way as diversity is always great. About a year ago, a friend from high school recently came out as being transgendered to his friends and family. My wife new about this waaaaaaaay back in High School. Surprise! It is true what people are saying - life is not a clear cut, black and white world. There are people out there who differ from what is considered, "normal," but that does not make them bad or deviants... an issue that, for some people, seems impossible to grasp!

Ugh. Trying to clean magic marker/sticker off my games (first step. Next step is cleaning the contacts!)

MOST of my SNES games are impeccable, but I have like 8-10 that all have number on top of them and DWM in big black magic marker on the back. DWM is currently the bane of my existence.

Of course, I hear rumor that a colorless blending marker can fix this. I will be going by one of the art stores tomorrow to acquire one of them and try it out.

We're ~*everywhere*~

Actually I found out about quite a few "friend of a friend" type situations after coming out, so it was kinda suprising. Estimations last I checked were that we're about 0.3% of the US population, but it's something that's actually really hard to measure and I wouldn't be shocked if there were more.

How does he come out as a transgender? Isn't it obvious? Or do you mean he was thought a guy but was a girl all along?

Never released on VHS or DVD in the USA, but in Europe:

Granted it was most likely a bootleg you saw. Bootleggers have gotten DVD replication down to an art. Some bootleg DVDs I have bought were better than retail releases. In not only artwork, but features.
Where do you get a bootleg that is even better than the original!?

My partner is also transgender. AppleQueso said it was about 0.3% of US population but it has to be much higher. A lot of people are also genderqueer, which I consider myself.

0.3% isn't really something to shake a stick at though, I mean in a city the size of Dallas (about 1.24 million), that'd still be around 4 thousand trans people. Again, it's kinda a hard thing to accurately determine.

Often it's a case of announcing your intentions to transition, laying stuff out to friends, family, acquaintances, employer (if necessary) exactly what's happening w/ medical interventions and whatnot, what new name and pronouns to start using, etc etc.

It's a bit different than coming out as gay or something, you're taking on an entire new identity, basically rebooting your life.
