so I fired up Nights Into Dreams last night, and came to the same realization that I come to every time I try to play that game: I have no idea what is going on. I mean, I fly around that first level and I collect little orbs and I fly through the rings and I crash into some big thing that blows up and I do all this three or four times and then the it's game over. I really just have never understood what I'm supposed to be doing.

It's basically a racing game. You do laps and go for a high score. A sufficiently high score will allow you to proceed through the game.

I felt the same way about it the first few times I tried it. After reading up a bit on how I was supposed to play it, the game clicked with me, and I loved it. It is easily one of the Saturn's best.

It's definitely more than the sum of its parts I think. Apparently strange gameplay and unique visuals and sound, but I think it's a great game too.

Rumour has it Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse (the 3D remake/reboot) for XBLA/PSN and Steam will be being pulled down on the 2nd as the license is expiring. If you want it, best grab it tomorrow!

I used to post on the nightsintodreams.com forums, so I *LOVE* NiGHTS. It takes the fast-paced arcade action Sega is famous for and turned it into one of the best 32-bit games.
Some of the high scores people get are NUTS. And getting a 2.0 on a boss is a PAIN. But of course it can also be played for a casual/fun "fly around and explore" kind of experience!

I also love the music, the art, the worlds... really an awesome game that rewards lots of replaying. At least for folks who like intense arcade-style score attacks.

well I ranked C on one level in Nights, but D on the other five so it'll be a while before I can get to the final level. Still... damn. Great game. So glad I took the time to actually understand this one.
