Erm, yes?
Admittedly, compared to North America, Sega always did better here, and then Sony with the Playstation onwards, but Nintendo still didn't do much worse with their consoles here than in any other country.

But the WiiU can play Wii disk games. Seems like having Wii games as digital downloads would be an easy way for Nintendo to make a few dollars and make their digital services even stronger.
When you say ASDA , a huge retail store, decides to take out the Wii U out because its not profitable enough for them to give it shelf space... Any body knows how much weekly/monthly sales are they looking at per store?
They decided to keep the DS , so we should have an idea on the amount of sales they want.
Any one thinks that Wii U sales will pick up in the next 3 months when the XboxOne and PS4 is released?

btw, why do you think some console/games sell better in UK than USA or the opposite? Given that both speak English and both are more or less the same culture. I know there are differences but it is not a huge enough to affect sales due to general preference.
I can see clearly why Japan and USA are different, its a totally different world. Indian and France , Brazil and korea , but UK and USA? I hope no one gets upset, but I would categories almost all of Europe and USA in 1 category along with Canada.
I don't think there's that much difference between the US and UK, RCBH928. I mean, when I said Sega were perhaps more popular, I think I was a bit misleading. I think the Mega Drive (Genesis) sold slightly more than the SNES, whilst over in the US I think the SNES sold slightly more than the Genesis (or do I have that wrong?). Also the Master System was quite popular here and in the rest of Europe.

Nintendo should release April-June numbers soon. The second full quarter for the 360 (1.8m) and PS3 (700K) showed decent sales continuing. I would be shocked if the Wii U sold much more than 250-300K.
So new numbers came out, and they continue the trend of the Wii U having sales that are historically bad.
Polygon wrote:Wii U sales still have a "negative impact" on its profits, Nintendo reports. Only 160,00 Wii U units were sold worldwide for the quarter: 90,000 in Japan, 60,000 in North America and 10,000 in Europe and Australia
Yikes. My estimates were way too generous. Even Wii consoles sold more (210K) during the same period.
I really don't see why anyone would WANT to publish their games for the Wii U when practically no one has bought one since launch. Even first party games are a risk when your install base is still under 4 million. Sales have done nothing but drop off precipitously, and are likely going to under perform those of the first full year of the Gamecube.
I know many of you like your Wii U and don't care about numbers, but the question is about how long will you be able to find interesting new stuff to play on it? How long will even Nintendo spend money and resources on it? The long term future for the console looks extremely bleak...
If nothing else it will have plenty of first party support which will help drive sales. It's not like the Vita looks that much better sales wise. Though at least the Vita is selling in Japan now. Typically a distant second behind the 3DS. And in its second year the Vita continues to have games I want to play. Not too worried about the WiiU.

I wonder about this to be honest. I am guessing that most people who bought a Wii U already did so with the expectation that first party titles would be coming. I don't see a rerelease of Zelda or a new Smash Bros. game doing much to bring new buyers into the fold. I think they already have those people.

It has sold about 5.5 million at this point. In its first year it sold about 4 million. Sales have been slow but steady. I'd be surprised if the Wii U hits 4 million in its first year. Sales have been dropping off sharply every quarter.
