There's a Spy vs. Spy Xbox game?!
I have a Spy vs. Spy game for the Commodore 64. How is it? About as good as you'd expect a Spy vs. Spy game for the Commodore 64 to be...

Yes! (I bought it this morning, in fact!) It was released in 2005 to lukewarm critical reception. (It has very high "reader" reviews on GameFAQs, however.) The game was released for the PS2 and Xbox in Europe, but in North America, it is exclusive to the Xbox. By Xbox standards, it is also relatively expensive on the secondary market. (In other words, complete copies cost more than $10.BoneSnapDeez wrote:There's a Spy vs. Spy Xbox game?!
Re: Games Acquired 2015
My reproduction copy of Shantae just came in last week, which serves as a firm reminder of just how screwed up my collector's logic is...
"I don't want to pay $200 for an actual copy of a handheld game nor do I want to spend $5 on a legal, digital copy of said game, so I'm going to spend $50 on a repro... seems legit."
Still, glad to see it up on that shelf!
Actually my trophy this year Mega Man I & II and Kickle Cubicle. Not because they're rare, but because about 23 years ago I loaned those three games to my cousin. A couple days later my parents got into their final argument and my mom had me pack a duffle bag with my stuff and left off into the night to another state... trauma ensued.
The takeaway is that those games were lost forever ever my cousin stopped playing video games, moved about three times, and sold all her stuff. Three weeks ago my OTHER cousin whom I barely know was passing through town and stayed with me. We got to talking about old video games and he pulled out this box he'd had sitting under his bed for years. In it were those three games with my initials Sharpie'd on the back. He gave them to me, then we played Goldeneye.

Can't say I love the idea of repros of commercially released games.

I can say unequivocally I do not like them.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Can't say I love the idea of repros of commercially released games.

Can't say I love going broke paying a third party over perceived value, especially when the dev won't see a penny of it, and after having bought a legal ROM on the Wii U in support of said dev... But I can't say I love turning a well meaning thread into a argument either
That's what the entire Emulation sub forum is for!

It isn't perceived value. It is worth what people are paying for it. (yes, it's 2015 and we're still typing this :/ )
You said you are a "collector". What is collectible about a bootleg? It will not go up in value and it can continue to be produced for years to come.

All value is perceived value
Anyways the argument against those kinds of repros is that if/when they make it back into the wider market (and I'd say it's more of a matter of 'when') it could wind up in the hands of collectors who weren't aware they were buying a repro.

You can collect without concern for value. The value in my bootleg is the work put into making it (If I could make my own I would) and the tangibility it brings to my collection. I have reproductions of Bahamut Lagoon, Final Fantasy V (In addition to the PS1 version), Star Ocean, Treasures of the Rudra, Terranigma, Secret of Mana 2 and many other non-US games. Sure, they're not commercially available in the US but they're JUST as bootleg. I don't care what my collection's worth years from now, I get to put a cart in a console and push the power button. It makes me happy.mjmjr25 wrote:It isn't perceived value. It is worth what people are paying for it. (yes, it's 2015 and we're still typing this :/ )
