It is cute and sweet without being saccharine
Funny, I think AQ or someone said the show was saccharine.
Is there much "dissent" amongst Bronys? I guess one of the things that makes me like a sub-culture community more or less is the degree of reflectiveness and, specifically, the willingness to criticize creative decisions made by the people who produce the media in question. Are there MLP fans who dislike the art style? Who find the show to be uneven? Or is it, due to "positive vibes," just seen as "ALL AWESOME ALL THE TIME!"?
I don't really think there are any large divides among the MLP community, but there are definitely disagreements from time to time.
For example, everyone always has their own favourite episodes, and certain episodes they dislike. Almost every fan also has a favourite pony, and from time to time they get into arguments over who is better (Rainbow Dash seems to be a common favourite, but I myself prefer Fluttershy because she more resonates with my own personality than any of the other characters).
There are also particular incidents that can get people a bit heated. The show has a few artistic errors at semi-rare times where ponies in the backgrounds will be missing limbs or there eyes will be pointing in opposite directions, etc. Some of the fans enjoy these because they're unintentional and funny, others seem to hate them because they're distracting and look unprofessional.
There's one particular character who was a byproduct of those very errors. A grey pony with blonde hair that appeared in the background of season one and had eyes pointing the wrong way, who the fans dubbed "Derpy Hooves," and was later turned into an official character, keeping the name and all. There's actually a particularly large amount of interesting controversy surrounding her that you can read about in better detail here:

Another incident that seemed to cause a lot of disagreements among fans was at the finale of season 3. The protagonist character Twilight Sparkle was previously a unicorn (horse with a horn and magic powers), but got turned into an alicorn (horse with a horn, magic powers, and wings) as she was upgraded to the status of royal princess. Some people didn't mind, some people liked the change, a loooooot of people flipped their shit.
That's all, off the top of my head.
